What is an Instagram hashtag?

Definition: Instagram Hashtag

A word or phrase proceeded by a pound sign (#) and used to identify messages on a specific topic. It is a meta-data tag that allows the grouping of similarly tagged messages and allows an electronic search to return all messages that contain it. Adding tags to photos and videos is a great way to find new followers and share posts with more people.
