Emplifi Team Social Media Marketing Experts

What’s in this report

In Q2 2026, FMCG Food brands in the Middle East saw Instagram post interactions and engagement outpace Facebook by a wide margin, while Link posts unexpectedly delivered the strongest organic Facebook results of any format. Abu Walad topped the Facebook leaderboard with over 128,000 interactions, while لابيل للشوكولا والزهره led Instagram with more than 109,000. On the paid side, Facebook Feed pulled in the largest share of ad spend and posted both the lowest CPC and the highest CTR among placements.

This quarterly benchmarks report pulls from Emplifi’s dataset of 347 Facebook pages and 242 Instagram profiles across Middle East, covering April 1, 2026 through June 30, 2026.

Platform landscape at a glance

In Middle East, Instagram brand profiles carry a lower median follower count than Facebook pages for FMCG Food. Because of how this chart is rendered in the source deck, the figures below are reported qualitatively rather than as exact numbers.

Metric Instagram Facebook
Median followers / fans Lower Higher
Median posts published (quarter) Higher Lower
Median total interactions (quarter) Higher Lower

Activity volume on Instagram is higher than on Facebook, while user engagement on Instagram also outpaces Facebook.

Median post interactions

Median post interactions track the middle-ranked page or profile by monthly interactions — a measure of typical performance rather than outlier peaks.

Platform Q2 2026 median post interactions
Instagram 21
Facebook 12

Instagram median post interactions peaked at around 30 in May 2025, dipped through the summer, recovered to a secondary peak near 28 in November 2025, then declined through Q1 2026 before ending Q2 2026 at roughly 21. Facebook stayed much lower and comparatively flat throughout, hovering between 12 and 15 and ending near 12.

Relative median post interactions

Relative median interactions index each platform’s performance against its own peak over the reporting period, making it easier to compare directional trends across platforms regardless of absolute scale.

By Q2 2026, Facebook’s relative median interactions sat at around 80% of its peak, while Instagram trailed at roughly 71% of its own peak — the two platforms tracked closely through most of 2025 before diverging in early 2026, when Instagram fell further from its high point than Facebook did.

Median post impressions

Impressions measure how many times posts were displayed, regardless of interaction. This metric is available for both platforms and reflects reach rather than engagement.

Platform Q2 2026 median post impressions
Instagram ~1,500
Facebook ~1,050

Instagram impressions climbed sharply from under 1,000 in mid-2025 to a peak near 4,700 in October 2025, before falling back steadily to approximately 1,500 by Q2 2026. Facebook impressions stayed comparatively flat in the 1,400–2,900 range for most of the period before declining to around 1,050 by the end of the quarter.

Median post engagement rates this quarter:

  • Instagram: ~3.2%
  • Facebook: ~0.65%

Instagram engagement held in a fairly narrow band between roughly 2.5% and 3.5% across the past year, ending Q2 2026 near 3.2% after a slight dip from a Q1 2026 high around 3.5%. Facebook engagement stayed well below 1% throughout, ending the quarter at approximately 0.65%.

Best-performing post types

Facebook: Link posts significantly outperform every other format organically this quarter, while Reel, Status, Live Video, and Photo post much smaller and fairly similar median results. Link posts generated a median of 52 post interactions, 41 more than the next-best format, Reel, which reached 11.

Instagram: Reel and Carousel posts lead organic performance, with Reel outperforming Carousel this quarter. Reels generated a median of 30 post interactions; Carousels reached 21.

Full organic post type performance (Q2 2026):

Live Video Facebook 10
Video Facebook 1
Photo Facebook 9
Reel Facebook 11
Status Facebook 10
Link Facebook 52
Carousel Instagram 21
Reel Instagram 30

Post type distribution trends:

On Facebook, Photo remains the dominant post format at around 59% of posts, though Reels are gaining share steadily — rising from near zero earlier in the year to approximately 38% by Q2 2026. On Instagram, Reels, Images, and Carousels each account for roughly a third of posts published, with Reels and Carousels driving the majority of top-performing content.

Methodology

This report is produced quarterly using Emplifi’s proprietary social media dataset — one of the largest in the industry, drawn from the platform used by more than 20,000 brands worldwide.

Data collection: Data is pulled once per quarter and reflects the state of Emplifi’s database at the start of the quarter following the period analyzed. It is not updated between releases.

Sample: 347 Facebook brand pages and 242 Instagram brand profiles in Middle East, April 1, 2026–June 30, 2026.

Minimum thresholds: Reports require a minimum of 50 Instagram profiles and 50 Facebook pages for a given region and industry combination. Interaction distribution data requires a minimum of 300 profiles. Ad benchmarks require a minimum of 200 active ad accounts from the region or industry.

Key definitions

  • Interactions (Facebook): Sum of all reactions (Like, Love, Haha, Wow, Sorry, Anger), comments, and shares on brand-published posts. Care reactions are counted under Likes.
  • Interactions (Instagram): Sum of likes and comments on brand-published posts.
  • Median post interactions: The middle-ranked page or profile when sorted by monthly post interactions. Represents typical performance, not average — so outliers don’t skew the figure.
  • Relative median interactions: Median interactions indexed to the maximum value in the reporting period for each platform, expressed as a percentage. Useful for comparing directional trends across platforms at different absolute scales.
  • Impressions: The number of times a post was displayed, regardless of whether it was interacted with. Reflects reach rather than engagement.
  • Engagement rate: Interactions divided by follower/fan count, expressed as a percentage.
  • Organic: Posts not paid to be promoted, detected using Emplifi’s internal algorithm with near-100% accuracy.
  • CPC / CPM: Median cost per click and cost per thousand impressions across all available ad accounts, shown for the top 5 placements by relative spend.
  • Relative spend: Normalized distribution (%) showing the average share of an account’s budget allocated to each placement.
  • CTR: Median click-through rate for the top 5 placements by relative spend.

All costs are in USD. All figures are medians unless otherwise noted. Data is first normalized at the profile/page level before aggregation.

Frequently asked questions

Instagram. Across 30 industries, Instagram posts got higher user engagement than Facebook posts — with no exceptions. Instagram also led on activity volume (post frequency) in most verticals, and ran neck-and-neck with Facebook in the rest. If you’re deciding where to focus organic effort this quarter, Instagram is the stronger channel almost everywhere.

Reels and carousels. In nearly every industry we benchmarked, these two formats drove the highest median post interactions, often by a wide margin over photos and stories. Which one wins first place varies by industry, but the reel-carousel pairing is the consistent pattern.

The Facebook feed. It had the lowest cost per click worldwide, with Facebook Reels close behind as the second-cheapest placement. Instagram Stories was the lowest-CPC Instagram placement, but still came in behind both Facebook options.

E-commerce, by a wide margin — accounting for 37.4% of all brand-profile interactions on Instagram and 27.5% on Facebook. Retail and services follow as the next-largest categories on both platforms, with fashion also ranking high on Instagram specifically.

Brands using UGC saw a 19.88x increase in conversion rate, a 5.06x increase in website visits, and a 1.08x increase in average order value, compared to brands that don’t (Emplifi Brands UGC benchmark, Q2 2026). Conversion rate is where UGC makes the biggest difference.
