What’s in this report

Middle East FMCG food social media benchmarks for Q3 2026 show Instagram ahead of Facebook by less than two to one: the median FMCG food brand in the Middle East earned 20.5 interactions per Instagram post in September and 11 per Facebook post. Reels led on Instagram, a rare Live Video format stood out on Facebook, and Saudi National Day and brand giveaways drove the quarter’s top posts.

This quarterly benchmarks report draws on Emplifi’s dataset of 296 Facebook pages and 222 Instagram profiles of FMCG food brands in the Middle East, covering July 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2026.

User-generated content: what’s achievable

Brands using Emplifi’s UGC solution saw these average uplifts in Q3 2026:

  • 11.49x conversion rate
  • 4.84x repeat website visits
  • 1.03x average order value

The figures come from Emplifi’s Worldwide Brands UGC benchmark, averaged across 68 to 83 accounts per metric. That benchmark covers brands in every category and region, so it is not specific to FMCG food or to the Middle East.

Organic performance: Facebook and Instagram

Interaction share by industry

Industrial and airlines brands dominate brand interactions in the Middle East, with about 89% of Facebook interactions between them, and airlines lead Instagram with 36.3%. FMCG food publishes 5.0% of Facebook brand posts but draws 0.3% of interactions, and on Instagram it takes 0.1% of interactions from 1.0% of posts.

Facebook interaction distribution (Q3 2026):

Category Share of total interactions
Industrial 47.8%
Airlines 41.6%
Telecom 5.2%
Services 1.5%
Finance 0.7%
Others 3.2%

Instagram interaction distribution (Q3 2026):

Category Share of total interactions
Airlines 36.3%
Services 12.3%
Auto 3.9%
Retail 2.8%
Finance 2.4%
Others 42.3%

The categories listed are those with the most interactions among the region’s most active publishers. Others combines every remaining category, FMCG food included.

Platform landscape at a glance

The median FMCG food page in the Middle East has about a third more followers than the median Instagram profile. Instagram profiles post a little more often, about twice a week, and collected about 2.9 times the interactions over the quarter.

Metric Instagram Facebook
Median followers / fans 37,957 51,242
Median posts published (quarter) 29 24
Median total interactions (quarter) 1,349 465

Median post interactions

This metric follows the middle-ranked page or profile each month, so a handful of viral accounts can’t inflate it.

Platform Q3 2026 median post interactions
Instagram 20.5
Facebook 11

Instagram peaked at 28 in November 2025, dipped to 20 in March 2026, recovered to 26 in August and fell back to 20.5 in September. Facebook held between 12 and 15 for most of the period and reached 11 in September 2026, its lowest point.

Relative median post interactions

Indexing each platform to its own 15-month peak makes the two easier to compare despite their different scales.

Both platforms ended September 2026 at 73% of their peaks: Facebook’s from October 2025 and Instagram’s from November 2025. For Facebook, that is the lowest reading of the period.

Median post impressions

Impressions count how often posts were displayed, whether or not anyone interacted. They measure visibility, not engagement.

Emplifi’s dataset has too few FMCG food profiles in the Middle East with impression data this quarter, so the impressions below are the Asia FMCG food medians.

Platform Q3 2026 median post impressions (Asia FMCG food)
Instagram 1,978
Facebook 1,286

In the Asia FMCG food series, Instagram impressions are about 40% of their October 2025 peak of 4,915, and moved between 1,844 and 2,515 within Q3. Facebook impressions peaked at about 2,930 in January 2026 and stood at 1,286 in September.

Engagement rate trends

Emplifi’s dataset has too few FMCG food profiles in the Middle East with impression data this quarter, so the engagement rates below are the Asia FMCG food medians.

Median post engagement rates this quarter (Asia FMCG food):

  • Instagram: up to 1.88%
  • Facebook: up to 0.37%

Across the quarter’s three months, the Instagram median ranged from 1.65% to 1.88% and the Facebook median from 0.20% to 0.37%, falling to 0.20% in September. Facebook’s rate has trended down from 0.68% in July 2025. Instagram’s rose from a low of 0.80% in November 2025 to a high of 1.98% in March 2026.

From this quarter, Emplifi calculates engagement rate from impressions instead of reach, because Facebook no longer provides reach data. These rates are therefore not comparable with the engagement rates in earlier quarterly reports.

Best-performing post types

Facebook: Live Video posts drew a median of 232.5 interactions, far above any other format, but they made up only 0.07% of FMCG food brands’ Facebook posts in September. Status updates and Reels earned nine each and photos 7.5.

Instagram: Reels led with a median of 30 interactions, carousels were close behind at 27, and single images trailed at 16.

Cost trends over time

Q3 2026 ad cost benchmarks, shown for September 2026 with the quarter’s monthly range:

Metric FMCG food benchmark Middle East overall
CPM (USD) 1.03 (0.92 to 1.03) 1.47 (1.13 to 1.47)

Middle East CPM has swung more than the FMCG food benchmark’s. It peaked at $2.15 in December 2025, dropped to $1.11 in April 2026 and recovered to $1.47 by September. Regional CTR moved between 0.70% and 0.88% over the 15 months.

The FMCG food benchmark’s CPM stayed between $0.84 and $1.15, and its CTR between 0.21% and 0.29%. No monthly CPC series is available.

How to use these benchmarks

Treat these medians as a calibration point for FMCG food brands in the Middle East, not a ceiling. Pull the same measures for your own Facebook and Instagram profiles and set them against the September 2026 figures above:

  • Median post interactions
  • Median post impressions
  • Median engagement rate
  • Post type mix

Keep the region’s own interaction medians as the main yardstick, since the impressions and engagement rates in this report are Asia FMCG food figures. On Instagram, Reels and carousels both clearly out-earned single images, which still make up more than a third of posts.

Methodology

This report is produced quarterly from Emplifi’s proprietary social media dataset, drawn from the platform used by more than 22,000 brands worldwide.

Data collection: Data is pulled once per quarter and reflects the state of Emplifi’s database at the start of the quarter following the period analyzed. It is not updated between releases.

Sample: 296 Facebook brand pages and 222 Instagram brand profiles of FMCG food brands in the Middle East, July 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2026. Median post impressions and engagement rates use the Asia FMCG food series, because the regional sample with impression data was too small this quarter.

Reporting period: Monthly metrics are reported for September 2026, the final month of the quarter, and trend commentary covers July 2025 through September 2026. The ads trend series also covers July 2025 through September 2026.

Minimum thresholds: Reports require a minimum of 50 Instagram profiles and 50 Facebook pages for a given region and industry combination. Interaction distribution data requires a minimum of 300 profiles. Ad benchmarks require a minimum of 200 active ad accounts from the region or industry.

Key definitions

  • Interactions (Facebook): Sum of all reactions (Like, Love, Haha, Wow, Sorry, Anger), comments and shares on brand-published posts. Care reactions are counted under Likes.
  • Interactions (Instagram): Sum of likes, comments, saves, shares and reposts on brand-published posts. Saves, shares and reposts are counted from Q3 2026.
  • Median post interactions: The middle-ranked page or profile when sorted by monthly post interactions. It represents typical performance rather than an average, so outliers don’t skew the figure.
  • Relative median interactions: Median interactions indexed to the maximum value in the reporting period for each platform, expressed as a percentage. Useful for comparing direction across platforms at different absolute scales.
  • Impressions: The number of times a post was displayed, whether or not anyone interacted with it. Reflects visibility rather than engagement.
  • Engagement rate: Interactions divided by impressions, expressed as a percentage. From Q3 2026 the rate is based on impressions instead of reach, because Facebook no longer provides reach data, so it is not comparable with earlier quarters.
  • Organic: Posts not paid to be promoted, detected using Emplifi’s internal algorithm with near-100% accuracy.
  • CPC / CPM: Median cost per click and cost per thousand impressions across all available ad accounts, shown for the top five placements by relative spend.
  • Relative spend: Normalized distribution (%) showing the average share of an account’s budget allocated to each placement.
  • CTR: Median click-through rate for the top five placements by relative spend.

All costs are in USD. All figures are medians unless otherwise noted; UGC uplifts are averages. Data is first normalized at the profile or page level before aggregation.
