What’s in this report

Alcohol social media benchmarks for Q3 2026 show Instagram doing the heavy lifting: the median alcohol brand’s Instagram post earned 51 interactions in September, against 11 on Facebook. Median engagement reached up to 2.53% on Instagram, its highest in 15 months, and up to 0.76% on Facebook across the quarter. Carousels led on Instagram, and link posts, a rarely used format, led on Facebook.

This quarterly benchmarks report draws on Emplifi’s dataset of 4,169 Facebook pages and 2,676 Instagram profiles in the worldwide alcohol category, covering July 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2026.

User-generated content: what’s achievable

Brands using Emplifi’s UGC solution saw these average uplifts in Q3 2026:

  • 11.49x conversion rate
  • 4.84x repeat website visits
  • 1.03x average order value

The figures come from Emplifi’s Worldwide Brands UGC benchmark, averaged across 68 to 83 accounts per metric. That benchmark covers brands in every category, so it is not specific to alcohol.

Organic performance: Facebook and Instagram

Interaction share by industry

Ecommerce brands collect the largest share of Facebook interactions of any category broken out in the data, and fashion leads Instagram by a wide margin. Alcohol is a strong performer on Instagram: it publishes 3.0% of brand posts there but draws 6.3% of interactions, more than auto, the fifth category in the table. On Facebook its shares are close to even, 3.1% of posts for 3.3% of interactions.

Facebook interaction distribution (Q3 2026):

Category Share of total interactions
Ecommerce 31.3%
Finance 7.8%
Services 4.8%
Auto 4.1%
Retail 3.5%
Others 48.6%

Instagram interaction distribution (Q3 2026):

Category Share of total interactions
Fashion 40.4%
Beauty 13.5%
Ecommerce 8.3%
Sporting goods 7.4%
Auto 5.1%
Others 25.1%

The table shows the five categories with the largest interaction share among the region’s highest-posting categories. Others combines every remaining category, alcohol included.

Platform landscape at a glance

Alcohol audiences are close in size on the two platforms, with Facebook slightly ahead on fans. Instagram profiles post a little more often and collect almost five times the interactions over the quarter.

Metric Instagram Facebook
Median followers / fans 27,037 30,848
Median posts published (quarter) 22 19
Median total interactions (quarter) 1,940 414

Median post interactions

The median tracks the middle-ranked page or profile each month, so a handful of viral posts can’t inflate it.

Platform Q3 2026 median post interactions
Instagram 51
Facebook 11

Instagram has been remarkably steady, moving only between 48 and 56 over 15 months. Facebook has eroded month by month, from 18 in July 2025 to 11 in September 2026, its lowest point.

Relative median post interactions

Against its own 15-month high, Instagram finished September at 91% of its peak. Facebook ended at 61% of its July 2025 level, its lowest reading of the period.

Median post impressions

Impressions count how often posts were displayed, whether or not anyone interacted. They measure visibility, not engagement.

Platform Q3 2026 median post impressions
Instagram 2,510
Facebook 838

Instagram posts were displayed about three times as often as Facebook posts in September. Instagram impressions fell from a peak of 5,966 in August 2025 to about 2,500 by early 2026 and have held near that level since. Facebook impressions slid from 2,136 in July 2025, with the sharpest drop in Q3 itself. The decline is not specific to alcohol: median impressions for brands worldwide fell from about 1,500 to 779 on Facebook and from about 3,900 to about 2,050 on Instagram between July 2025 and September 2026.

Engagement rate trends

Median post engagement rates this quarter:

  • Instagram: up to 2.53%
  • Facebook: up to 0.76%

Across the quarter, Instagram’s median ranged from 2.03% to 2.53% and Facebook’s from 0.66% to 0.76%. Instagram’s rate has nearly doubled from a low of 1.35% in September 2025, with the steepest rise between November 2025 and February 2026. Facebook held a narrow 0.65% to 0.85% band for all 15 months.

From this quarter, Emplifi calculates engagement rate from impressions instead of reach, because Facebook no longer provides reach data. These rates are therefore not comparable with the engagement rates in earlier quarterly reports.

Best-performing post types

Facebook: Link posts led, earning more than half again the median interactions of a photo, but they made up just 1.1% of alcohol brands’ Facebook posts in September. Photos came second. Live Video, Reels and status updates were bunched just behind.

Instagram: Carousels were the clear winner, about 27% ahead of Reels and 55% ahead of single images.

Full organic post type performance (Q3 2026):

Post type Platform Median post interactions
Link Facebook 15.5
Photo Facebook 10
Live Video Facebook 8.5
Reel Facebook 8
Status Facebook 8
Carousel Instagram 62
Reel Instagram 49
Image Instagram 40

Post type distribution trends:

Photos still make up 62.5% of alcohol brands’ Facebook posts, down from 71.0% in July 2025. Reels took most of that ground, rising from 18.5% to 33.3%, with a jump from 19.2% to 27.9% between September and October 2025. On Instagram, carousels grew from 21.8% to 26.4% of posts as single images fell from 41.3% to 35.9%. Reels held at about 37%.

Paid performance: Facebook and Instagram ads

Alcohol has its own ad benchmark this quarter, so the placement figures below come from alcohol ad accounts only. The export has no alcohol-specific monthly series, so the cost trends use the brands benchmark and the Worldwide overall figure.

Where brands are spending

Alcohol budgets are spread fairly evenly. Facebook feed leads with about a quarter of spend, only 5.83 percentage points ahead of Instagram Reels in second. Facebook Reels and Instagram feed follow, and Instagram Stories is fifth.

CPC and CPM by placement

The most cost-efficient placements this quarter:

  • Lowest CPC: Facebook feed, Facebook Reels and Instagram feed
  • Lowest CPM: Facebook feed, Instagram Reels and Instagram Stories

Facebook feed is the standout: the cheapest clicks and the cheapest reach of the five. Instagram Reels, the second-largest placement by spend, buys reach cheaply but charges the most per click, seven times Facebook feed’s CPC.

Spend, CPC and CPM by placement (Q3 2026):

Placement Share of spend (%) CPC (USD) CPM (USD)
Facebook feed 24.82 0.20 1.86
Instagram Reels 18.99 1.40 2.20
Facebook Reels 17.37 0.51 2.84
Instagram feed 15.66 0.92 2.29
Instagram Stories 8.34 0.92 2.28

Click-through rate by placement

Click-through rates for alcohol ads are low on every placement. Facebook feed leads, and every Instagram placement stays at 0.11% or below, which suggests most alcohol campaigns are bought for reach and awareness rather than clicks.

CTR by placement (Q3 2026):

Placement CTR (%)
Facebook feed 0.57
Facebook Reels 0.23
Instagram Stories 0.11
Instagram feed 0.10
Instagram Reels 0.07

Cost trends over time

Q3 2026 ad cost benchmarks, shown for September 2026 with the quarter’s monthly range:

Metric Brands benchmark Worldwide overall
CPM (USD) 2.09 (1.83 to 2.09) 2.25 (1.90 to 2.25)
CTR (%) 1.13 (1.06 to 1.13) 1.28 (1.13 to 1.28)

Worldwide CPM peaked at $2.32 in November 2025, fell to $1.68 in January 2026 and finished September 2026 at its highest level since that November peak. Worldwide CTR rose from 0.95% in July 2025 to a 15-month high in September 2026, and the brands benchmark followed both lines a little lower. These trends cover ad accounts in every industry, so they show the market’s direction rather than alcohol’s own costs. No monthly CPC series is available.

How to use these benchmarks

Use these medians as a reference point for alcohol brands, not a ceiling. Pull the same measures for your own profiles and compare them with the September 2026 figures above:

  • Median post interactions
  • Median post impressions
  • Median engagement rate
  • Post type mix

On Instagram, carousels are both the best performer and a growing share of posts, so they are the first place to add volume. On Facebook, where interactions per post have slipped steadily, test link posts against the default photo before adding more Reels. For paid, judge alcohol campaigns on CPM and reach first: even Facebook feed’s CTR is well under half the Worldwide overall rate.

Methodology

This report is produced quarterly from Emplifi’s proprietary social media dataset, drawn from the platform used by more than 22,000 brands worldwide.

Data collection: Data is pulled once per quarter and reflects the state of Emplifi’s database at the start of the quarter following the period analyzed. It is not updated between releases.

Sample: 4,169 Facebook brand pages and 2,676 Instagram brand profiles in the worldwide alcohol category, July 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2026.

Reporting period: Monthly metrics are reported for September 2026, the final month of the quarter, and trend commentary covers July 2025 through September 2026. The ads trend series also covers July 2025 through September 2026.

Minimum thresholds: Reports require a minimum of 50 Instagram profiles and 50 Facebook pages for a given region and industry combination. Interaction distribution data requires a minimum of 300 profiles. Ad benchmarks require a minimum of 200 active ad accounts from the region or industry.

Key definitions

  • Interactions (Facebook): Sum of all reactions (Like, Love, Haha, Wow, Sorry, Anger), comments and shares on brand-published posts. Care reactions are counted under Likes.
  • Interactions (Instagram): Sum of likes, comments, saves, shares and reposts on brand-published posts. Saves, shares and reposts are counted from Q3 2026.
  • Median post interactions: The middle-ranked page or profile when sorted by monthly post interactions. It represents typical performance rather than an average, so outliers don’t skew the figure.
  • Relative median interactions: Median interactions indexed to the maximum value in the reporting period for each platform, expressed as a percentage. Useful for comparing direction across platforms at different absolute scales.
  • Impressions: The number of times a post was displayed, whether or not anyone interacted with it. Reflects visibility rather than engagement.
  • Engagement rate: Interactions divided by impressions, expressed as a percentage. From Q3 2026 the rate is based on impressions instead of reach, because Facebook no longer provides reach data, so it is not comparable with earlier quarters.
  • Organic: Posts not paid to be promoted, detected using Emplifi’s internal algorithm with near-100% accuracy.
  • CPC / CPM: Median cost per click and cost per thousand impressions across all available ad accounts, shown for the top five placements by relative spend.
  • Relative spend: Normalized distribution (%) showing the average share of an account’s budget allocated to each placement.
  • CTR: Median click-through rate for the top five placements by relative spend.

All costs are in USD. All figures are medians unless otherwise noted; UGC uplifts are averages. Data is first normalized at the profile or page level before aggregation.

Frequently asked questions

Anything consistently above 2.53% put an alcohol brand ahead of the worldwide median in Q3 2026. The monthly median ranged from 2.03% to 2.53% across the quarter, against 0.66% to 0.76% on Facebook. A free social media assessment shows where your own profiles land.

On Instagram, yes. Alcohol brands published 3.0% of brand posts worldwide in Q3 2026 but collected 6.3% of interactions. On Facebook the two shares were close, at 3.1% of posts and 3.3% of interactions.

Carousels, with a median of 62 interactions per post in Q3 2026, against 49 for Reels and 40 for single images. Their share of alcohol brands’ Instagram posts rose from 21.8% in July 2025 to 26.4% in September 2026.

Posts are being shown less often. The median alcohol Facebook post’s interactions fell from 18 in July 2025 to 11 in September 2026, and impressions fell over the same period. Median Facebook impressions fell for brands worldwide too, so the drop is not unique to alcohol.

Facebook feed was the cheapest placement for alcohol ad accounts in Q3 2026, at a median CPC of $0.20 and a CPM of $1.86. Instagram Reels had the highest CPC of the top five placements, at $1.40, and the lowest CTR, at 0.07%.
