Clothing social media benchmarks for Q3 2026 show engagement climbing while reach shrinks: the median clothing brand’s Instagram post earned 42 interactions in September, against six on Facebook. Median engagement reached up to 1.38% on Instagram and up to 0.60% on Facebook across the quarter, both the highest of the 15 months. Carousels led on Instagram and are now its most-used format, while Live Video led on Facebook.
This quarterly benchmarks report draws on Emplifi’s dataset of 4,770 Facebook pages and 3,837 Instagram profiles in the worldwide clothing category, covering July 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2026.
Brands using Emplifi’s UGC solution saw these average uplifts in Q3 2026:
The figures come from Emplifi’s Worldwide Brands UGC benchmark, averaged across 68 to 83 accounts per metric. That benchmark covers brands in every category, so it is not specific to clothing.
Fashion, the category closest to clothing in this breakdown, dominates Instagram: 40.4% of brand interactions on 27.8% of posts. On Facebook it is a much smaller force, with 3.3% of interactions on 6.4% of posts, and ecommerce collects the largest share of any category broken out. Clothing is not broken out as a separate category.
Facebook interaction distribution (Q3 2026):
| Category | Share of total interactions |
|---|---|
| Ecommerce | 31.3% |
| Finance | 7.8% |
| Services | 4.8% |
| Auto | 4.1% |
| Retail | 3.5% |

| Beauty | 13.5% |
| Ecommerce | 8.3% |
| Sporting goods | 7.4% |

The table shows the five categories with the largest interaction share among the region’s six highest-posting categories. Others combines every remaining category.
Clothing brands have the bigger audience on Instagram, where the median profile has about 75% more followers than the median Facebook page. They post there more often and collect more than 11 times the interactions over the quarter.

| Median posts published (quarter) | 44 | 36 |

The median follows the middle-ranked page or profile each month, so a few celebrity-led brands can’t distort it.

Instagram has barely moved, between 38 and 42 for all 15 months, and finished September at the top of that range. Facebook held at eight until February 2026, then slipped to six from June.
Instagram ended September at 100% of its 15-month high. Facebook finished at 75% of its peak, the lowest reading for either platform.
Impressions count how often posts were displayed, whether or not anyone interacted. They measure visibility, not engagement.
| Platform | Q3 2026 median post impressions |

| 1,741 |
Instagram posts were displayed about four times as often as Facebook posts in September, and both ended the quarter at their lowest point. Instagram impressions fell from a peak of 21,280 in August 2025 to about a third of that, with most of the drop between November 2025 and February 2026. Facebook held between about 3,500 and 4,750 until July 2026, then fell sharply in August and September. The decline is broad: median impressions for brands worldwide fell from about 1,500 to 779 on Facebook and from about 3,900 to about 2,050 on Instagram between July 2025 and September 2026.
Median post engagement rates this quarter:
Instagram’s median ranged from 0.97% to 1.38% across the quarter, and Facebook’s from 0.42% to 0.60%. With interactions flat and impressions down, Instagram’s rate has almost tripled since its low of 0.48% in August 2025. Facebook’s held between 0.39% and 0.50% for 14 months before September’s jump.
From this quarter, Emplifi calculates engagement rate from impressions instead of reach, because Facebook no longer provides reach data. These rates are therefore not comparable with the engagement rates in earlier quarterly reports.
Facebook: Live Video earned a median of 41 interactions, roughly eight times every other format, but it made up only 0.4% of clothing brands’ Facebook posts in September. Links, photos, Reels and status updates were all within half an interaction of each other.
Instagram: Carousels led, a quarter ahead of Reels and almost twice a single image.

This quarter’s data has no clothing-specific ad benchmark, so the paid figures below come from Emplifi’s Worldwide ad accounts benchmark, which spans ad accounts in every industry.
Facebook feed takes about a third of the average ad budget, more than double the share of Instagram feed. Facebook Reels and Instagram Reels sit almost level behind them, and Instagram Stories takes the smallest share of the five.
The most cost-efficient placements this quarter:
For clothing brands driving traffic to product pages, Facebook feed and Facebook Reels buy clicks for less than half the price of any Instagram placement. Instagram Reels has a low CPM but the most expensive clicks.
Spend, CPC and CPM by placement (Q3 2026):
| Placement | Share of spend (%) | CPC (USD) | CPM (USD) |
|---|---|---|---|

|---|---|
| Facebook feed | 1.67 |
| Facebook Reels | 1.04 |

On Instagram, carousels are both the best performer and the most-used format, so the remaining gain is in replacing single images. On Facebook, everyday formats earn about five interactions each; only Live Video breaks away. Track impressions alongside interactions, since reach fell faster than engagement this quarter.
