Dairy social media benchmarks for Q3 2026 show Instagram ahead post for post: the median dairy brand’s Instagram post earned 33 interactions in September, against 15 on Facebook. Median engagement reached up to 2.20% on Instagram and up to 0.89% on Facebook across the quarter, Facebook’s best reading in 15 months. Reels and carousels ran almost level on Instagram, while Reels finished last of five formats on Facebook.
This quarterly benchmarks report draws on Emplifi’s dataset of 1,160 Facebook pages and 538 Instagram profiles in the worldwide dairy category, covering July 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2026.
Brands using Emplifi’s UGC solution saw these average uplifts in Q3 2026:
The figures come from Emplifi’s Worldwide Brands UGC benchmark, averaged across 68 to 83 accounts per metric. That benchmark covers brands in every category, so it is not specific to dairy.
Ecommerce brands draw the largest share of Facebook interactions of any category broken out in the data, and fashion holds the biggest share on Instagram. Dairy sits inside the FMCG food category in this breakdown. On Facebook, FMCG food publishes 3.0% of brand posts and collects 4.2% of interactions, more than its posting weight and enough for fourth place among the categories shown. On Instagram the category is smaller: 1.1% of posts and 0.9% of interactions.
Facebook interaction distribution (Q3 2026):
| Category | Share of total interactions |
|---|---|
| Ecommerce | 31.3% |
| Finance | 7.8% |
| Services | 4.8% |
| FMCG food | 4.2% |
| Auto | 4.1% |
| Others | 47.9% |
Instagram interaction distribution (Q3 2026):
| Category | Share of total interactions |
|---|---|
| Fashion | 40.4% |
| Beauty | 13.5% |
| Ecommerce | 8.3% |
| Sporting goods | 7.4% |
| Auto | 5.1% |
| Others | 25.1% |
Listed are the region’s six highest-posting categories plus FMCG food, the category dairy belongs to, ranked by share of interactions. Others combines every remaining category.
The median dairy brand has more than twice as many fans on Facebook as followers on Instagram and posts at a similar pace on both. Instagram still collects more interactions over the quarter, but the gap is smaller than the follower numbers would suggest.

Medians follow the middle-ranked page or profile each month, which keeps a handful of very large accounts from setting the level.

Instagram drifted from 39 interactions in July 2025 to 33 in September 2026, matching its December 2025 low. Facebook declined more steadily, from a peak of 22 in September 2025 to 15, its lowest point of the period, with every month since April 2026 at or below 19.
Against its own July 2025 peak, Instagram ended September 2026 at 85%. Facebook finished at 68% of its September 2025 high, the lower of the two and the bottom of its 15-month range.
Impressions count how often posts were displayed, whether or not anyone interacted. They measure visibility, not engagement.
| Platform | Q3 2026 median post impressions |
|---|---|
| 1,524 | |
| 1,252 |
Both platforms delivered fewer impressions per post than a year earlier. Instagram peaked at 3,528 in October 2025, bottomed out at 1,324 in February 2026 and recovered to around 1,800 to 2,150 in the spring and summer before easing in September. Facebook fell from 4,641 in August 2025 to 1,252, its lowest point. The decline is broad: median impressions for brands worldwide fell on both platforms over the same period, on Facebook from about 1,500 to 779.
Median post engagement rates this quarter:
Instagram’s monthly median ranged from 2.08% to 2.20% across the quarter, and Facebook’s from 0.60% to 0.89%. Instagram climbed from a low of 1.19% in August 2025 to above 2% from February 2026 onward. Facebook moved more: it dipped to 0.40% in April 2026, then reached its 15-month high in August 2026.
From this quarter, Emplifi calculates engagement rate from impressions instead of reach, because Facebook no longer provides reach data. These rates are therefore not comparable with the engagement rates in earlier quarterly reports.
Facebook: Live Video and link posts led at medians of 23 and 20.5 interactions, though both are rare: Live Video made up 0.2% and links 1.6% of dairy brands’ Facebook posts in September. Status updates (12) and photos (10) came next, and Reels trailed at nine.
Instagram: Reels (42) and carousels (40) were close, and both earned about half as much again as a single image (28).

Treat these medians as a reference for dairy brands, not a ceiling. Set your own September 2026 figures against them:
On Instagram, Reels and carousels both earn well above single images, so a mix of the two is the safer bet. On Facebook, where Reels now take almost 40% of dairy posts but finish last on interactions, test links, status updates and photos against your own Reels before shifting more volume.
This report is produced quarterly from Emplifi’s proprietary social media dataset, drawn from the platform used by more than 22,000 brands worldwide.
