Worldwide Social Media Benchmarks: Finance Q3 2026

What’s in this report

Finance social media benchmarks for Q3 2026 show steady Instagram performance and slowly fading Facebook interactions: the median financial brand’s Instagram post earned 25 interactions in September, against eight on Facebook. Median engagement reached up to 1.57% on Instagram and up to 0.73% on Facebook across the quarter, the highest rates of the past 15 months on both. Reels led on Instagram, and finance advertisers paid well below the Worldwide CPM.

This quarterly benchmarks report draws on Emplifi’s dataset of 7,929 Facebook pages and 3,200 Instagram profiles in the worldwide finance category, covering July 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2026.

User-generated content: what’s achievable

Brands using Emplifi’s UGC solution saw these average uplifts in Q3 2026:

  • 11.49x conversion rate
  • 4.84x repeat website visits
  • 1.03x average order value

The figures come from Emplifi’s Worldwide Brands UGC benchmark, averaged across 68 to 83 accounts per metric. That benchmark covers brands in every category, so it is not specific to finance.

Organic performance: Facebook and Instagram

Interaction share by industry

Finance is the second-largest category on Facebook by interactions: it publishes 11.2% of brand posts and collects 7.8% of interactions, behind only ecommerce at 31.3%. On Instagram it is a small player, with 2.0% of brand posts and 1.5% of interactions, outside the top five.

Facebook interaction distribution (Q3 2026):

Category Share of total interactions
Ecommerce 31.3%
Finance 7.8%
Services 4.8%
Auto 4.1%
Retail 3.5%
Others 48.6%

Instagram interaction distribution (Q3 2026):

Category Share of total interactions
Fashion 40.4%
Beauty 13.5%
Ecommerce 8.3%
Sporting goods 7.4%
Auto 5.1%
Others 25.1%

The tables rank the region’s six highest-posting categories, plus finance, by share of interactions and show the top five. Others combines every remaining category.

Platform landscape at a glance

Financial brands have larger audiences on Facebook, where the median page has about 64% more fans than the median Instagram profile has followers. Posting rates are similar, and Instagram still collects almost three times the interactions over the quarter.

Metric Instagram Facebook
Median followers / fans 22,543 37,006
Median posts published (quarter) 39 37
Median total interactions (quarter) 1,751 624

Median post interactions

The median tracks the middle-ranked page or profile each month, so national banks with very large followings don’t set the level.

Platform Q3 2026 median post interactions
Instagram 25
Facebook 8

Instagram barely moved, staying between 24 and 26 interactions per post in every month of the period. Facebook declined one step at a time, from 11 interactions per post through January 2026 to eight in September 2026.

Relative median post interactions

Instagram ended September 2026 at 96% of its peak. Facebook finished at 73% of its 2025 level, its lowest point of the 15 months.

Median post impressions

Impressions count how often posts were displayed, whether or not anyone interacted. They measure visibility, not engagement.

Platform Q3 2026 median post impressions
Instagram 1,980
Facebook 1,211

Instagram impressions per post halved between September 2025 (3,869) and March 2026 (1,827), and have held between about 1,850 and 2,150 since. Facebook impressions peaked at 2,511 in November 2025 and fell to 1,211 in September 2026, their lowest point. Median Facebook impressions for brands worldwide fell over the same period too, from about 1,500 to 779.

Engagement rate trends

Median post engagement rates this quarter:

  • Instagram: up to 1.57%
  • Facebook: up to 0.73%

Instagram’s monthly median ranged from 1.41% to 1.57% across the quarter, and Facebook’s from 0.61% to 0.73%. Instagram rose from 0.90% in September 2025, with most of the increase between December 2025 and February 2026. Facebook stayed between 0.61% and 0.73% for the whole period, touching both ends of that range in Q3 2026.

From this quarter, Emplifi calculates engagement rate from impressions instead of reach, because Facebook no longer provides reach data. These rates are therefore not comparable with the engagement rates in earlier quarterly reports.

Best-performing post types

Facebook: Live Video led with a median of 27 interactions, more than three times status updates and Reels (eight each). Links and photos earned six. Live Video is rare, at 0.3% of finance posts on Facebook.

Instagram: Reels led at a median of 32, carousels followed at 29, and single images earned 19.

The placement figures below come from Emplifi’s finance ad accounts benchmark, which pools finance ad accounts across all regions. The cost trends table compares it with the Worldwide overall benchmark.

Where brands are spending

Spend, CPC and CPM by placement (Q3 2026):

Placement Share of spend (%) CPC (USD) CPM (USD)

Cost trends over time

Q3 2026 ad cost benchmarks, shown for September 2026 with the quarter’s monthly range:

Metric Finance benchmark Worldwide overall
CPM (USD) 1.49 (1.31 to 1.49) 2.25 (1.90 to 2.25)
CTR (%) 1.36 (1.30 to 1.36) 1.28 (1.13 to 1.28)

Finance CPM rose from $1.12 in August 2025 to $1.49 in September 2026, its highest point, but stays well below the Worldwide overall figure of $2.25. How to use these benchmarks

Treat these medians as a calibration point for banks, insurers, payment and fintech brands. Compare your own September 2026 figures with:

  • Median post interactions
  • Median post impressions
  • Median engagement rate
  • Post type mix

On Instagram, Reels and carousels both earn more than single images, so move volume toward them. On Facebook, photos still make up two thirds of finance posts but earn the least; status updates, Reels and occasional Live Video sessions earn more.

Methodology

This report is produced quarterly from Emplifi’s proprietary social media dataset, drawn from the platform used by more than 22,000 brands worldwide.

Data collection: Data is pulled once per quarter and reflects the state of Emplifi’s database at the start of the quarter following the period analyzed. It is not updated between releases.

Sample: 7,929 Facebook brand pages and 3,200 Instagram brand profiles in the worldwide finance category, July 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2026.

Reporting period: Monthly metrics are reported for September 2026, the final month of the quarter, and trend commentary covers July 2025 through September 2026. The ads trend series also covers July 2025 through September 2026.

Minimum thresholds: Reports require a minimum of 50 Instagram profiles and 50 Facebook pages for a given region and industry combination. Interaction distribution data requires a minimum of 300 profiles. Ad benchmarks require a minimum of 200 active ad accounts from the region or industry.

Key definitions

  • Interactions (Facebook): Sum of all reactions (Like, Love, Haha, Wow, Sorry, Anger), comments and shares on brand-published posts. Care reactions are counted under Likes.
  • Interactions (Instagram): Sum of likes, comments, saves, shares and reposts on brand-published posts. Saves, shares and reposts are counted from Q3 2026.
  • Median post interactions: The middle-ranked page or profile when sorted by monthly post interactions. It represents typical performance rather than an average, so outliers don’t skew the figure.
  • Relative median interactions: Median interactions indexed to the maximum value in the reporting period for each platform, expressed as a percentage. Useful for comparing direction across platforms at different absolute scales.
  • Impressions: The number of times a post was displayed, whether or not anyone interacted with it. Reflects visibility rather than engagement.
  • Engagement rate: Interactions divided by impressions, expressed as a percentage. From Q3 2026 the rate is based on impressions instead of reach, because Facebook no longer provides reach data, so it is not comparable with earlier quarters.
  • Organic: Posts not paid to be promoted, detected using Emplifi’s internal algorithm with near-100% accuracy.
  • CPC / CPM: Median cost per click and cost per thousand impressions across all available ad accounts, shown for the top five placements by relative spend.
  • Relative spend: Normalized distribution (%) showing the average share of an account’s budget allocated to each placement.
  • CTR: Median click-through rate for the top five placements by relative spend.

All costs are in USD. All figures are medians unless otherwise noted; UGC uplifts are averages. Data is first normalized at the profile or page level before aggregation.
