E-shop social media benchmarks for Q3 2026 show online stores getting almost all of their organic response on Instagram: the median e-shop’s Instagram post earned 28 interactions in September, against three on Facebook. Median engagement reached up to 0.83% on Instagram and up to 0.18% on Facebook across the quarter. Reels led on Instagram, just ahead of carousels, and Live Video was the only Facebook format to reach double figures.
This quarterly benchmarks report draws on Emplifi’s dataset of 4,945 Facebook pages and 2,625 Instagram profiles in the worldwide e-shop category, covering July 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2026.
Brands using Emplifi’s UGC solution saw these average uplifts in Q3 2026:
The figures come from Emplifi’s Worldwide Brands UGC benchmark, averaged across 68 to 83 accounts per metric. That benchmark covers brands in every category, so it is not specific to e-shops.
Ecommerce, the category e-shops belong to in this breakdown, takes 31.3% of all brand interactions on Facebook from 10.3% of brand posts, the largest share of any category broken out in the data. On Instagram, fashion leads by a distance, and ecommerce ranks third with 8.3% of interactions from 6.3% of posts.

Instagram has been stable: it slipped from 30 in August 2025 to 25 in February and March 2026, then held at 28 from June through September. Facebook sat at four interactions per post for the first ten months of the period and has been at three since May 2026.
Instagram finished September 2026 at 93% of its August 2025 peak, close to the top of its range. Facebook was at 75% of its earlier level, where it has stayed since May.
Impressions count how often posts were displayed, whether or not anyone interacted. They measure visibility, not engagement.
| Platform | Q3 2026 median post impressions |

| 3,583 | |
| 2,538 |
Instagram impressions per post peaked at 9,193 in September 2025 and fell by more than half by February 2026; since then they have moved between about 3,000 and 4,000. Facebook impressions fell steadily from 5,296 in July 2025 to 2,538 in September 2026. The decline is not specific to e-shops: median impressions for brands worldwide fell on both platforms over the same period, on Facebook from about 1,500 to 779.
Median post engagement rates this quarter:
Across the quarter’s three months, Instagram’s median ranged from 0.66% to 0.83% and Facebook’s from 0.17% to 0.18%. Instagram’s September rate was its second-highest of the 15 months, behind April 2026 (0.87%). Facebook’s rate has drifted down from a high of 0.23% in September 2025.
From this quarter, Emplifi calculates engagement rate from impressions instead of reach, because Facebook no longer provides reach data. These rates are therefore not comparable with the engagement rates in earlier quarterly reports.
Facebook: Live Video earned a median of 14 interactions, several times any other format, though it made up only 0.8% of e-shop Facebook posts in September. Links, Reels and status updates each earned three, and photos two.
Instagram: Reels led with a median of 32, carousels followed at 29, and both earned around twice the interactions of a single image (15).

On Instagram, Reels and carousels both double the response of a single image, so they deserve most of the volume. On Facebook, where the median post gets three interactions, judge success on reach and traffic, and test Live Video for launches and sales events.
