In Q2 2026, Hair Care brands Worldwide saw Instagram outperform Facebook on nearly every organic metric — median engagement rates ran roughly 2.5-2.9% on Instagram versus 1.0-2.0% on Facebook, and Carousel and Reel posts drove the strongest Instagram results. On Facebook, Live Video remained the standout organic format, generating more than double the interactions of the next-best post type. Ecommerce continued to dominate interaction share across the broader social landscape, while Hair Care itself (tracked under Emplifi’s Beauty category) held a modest but meaningful slice of total brand interactions.
This quarterly benchmarks report pulls from Emplifi’s dataset of 1,035 Facebook pages and 748 Instagram profiles across Worldwide, covering April 1, 2026 through June 30, 2026.

Instagram median post interactions drifted gradually downward over the past year, sliding from around 34 in mid-2025 to around 26 by Q2 2026, with a few months of partial recovery along the way. Facebook held essentially flat and low across the same period, hovering in the 4-6 range throughout.
Relative median interactions index each platform’s performance against its own peak over the reporting period, making it easier to compare directional trends across platforms regardless of absolute scale.
By Q2 2026, Facebook’s relative median interactions had fallen to around 65% of its own peak — its lowest point in the period — after holding near 100% through mid-2025. Instagram was more resilient, ending the period around 80% of its peak after dipping as low as the low-80s in between.
Impressions measure how many times posts were displayed, regardless of interaction. This metric is available for both platforms and reflects reach rather than engagement.
| Platform | Q2 2026 median post impressions |
|---|---|
| ~1,900 | |
| ~1,100 |
Instagram impressions climbed steadily from around 1,700 in mid-2025 to a peak near 4,100 around September 2025, before pulling back to roughly 1,900 by Q2 2026 — likely reflecting shifting algorithmic reach tied to content mix. Facebook impressions stayed comparatively low and flat throughout, ending around 1,100.

These figures represent median performance across thousands of brand profiles in Emplifi’s dataset — they’re a useful calibration point, not a ceiling. If your Instagram engagement rate is sitting above roughly 2.9%, you’re already ahead of the median for Worldwide Hair Care brands; below it, there are likely content-mix improvements worth testing, starting with Carousels and Reels.
Instagram. Across 30 industries, Instagram posts got higher user engagement than Facebook posts — with no exceptions. Instagram also led on activity volume (post frequency) in most verticals, and ran neck-and-neck with Facebook in the rest. If you’re deciding where to focus organic effort this quarter, Instagram is the stronger channel almost everywhere.
Reels and carousels. In nearly every industry we benchmarked, these two formats drove the highest median post interactions, often by a wide margin over photos and stories. Which one wins first place varies by industry, but the reel-carousel pairing is the consistent pattern.
The Facebook feed. It had the lowest cost per click worldwide, with Facebook Reels close behind as the second-cheapest placement. Instagram Stories was the lowest-CPC Instagram placement, but still came in behind both Facebook options.
E-commerce, by a wide margin — accounting for 37.4% of all brand-profile interactions on Instagram and 27.5% on Facebook. Retail and services follow as the next-largest categories on both platforms, with fashion also ranking high on Instagram specifically.
Brands using UGC saw a 19.88x increase in conversion rate, a 5.06x increase in website visits, and a 1.08x increase in average order value, compared to brands that don’t (Emplifi Brands UGC benchmark, Q2 2026). Conversion rate is where UGC makes the biggest difference.
