Platform landscape at a glance

In Latin America, Instagram brand profiles carry a higher median follower count than Facebook pages. The figures below reflect relative standing across all profiles in the sample at the end of Q2 2026; the underlying chart for this metric does not publish absolute numeric values, so directional comparisons are shown instead.

Metric Instagram Facebook
Median followers / fans Higher Lower
Median posts published (quarter) Higher Lower
Median total interactions (quarter) Higher Lower

Activity volume on both platforms is higher on Instagram, while user engagement on Instagram also outpaces Facebook.

Median post interactions

Median post interactions track the middle-ranked page or profile by monthly interactions — a measure of typical performance rather than outlier peaks.

Platform Q2 2026 median post interactions
Instagram ~30
Facebook ~4

Instagram median post interactions declined steadily from around 47 in May 2025 to a low near 32 by December 2025, recovered to roughly 38 by May 2026, then eased back to about 30 in June 2026. Facebook held low and largely flat across the full period, drifting from around 6 down to approximately 4.

Relative median post interactions

Relative median interactions index each platform’s performance against its own peak over the reporting period, making it easier to compare directional trends across platforms regardless of absolute scale.

By June 2026, both platforms’ relative median interactions had pulled back from a local peak reached in May 2026 (around 80-83%), with Facebook ending near 65% of its peak and Instagram near 62% — their lowest points since the start of the reporting period.

Median post impressions

Impressions measure how many times posts were displayed, regardless of interaction. This metric is available for both platforms and reflects reach rather than engagement.

Platform Q2 2026 median post impressions
Instagram ~1,550
Facebook ~650

Instagram impressions climbed from around 1,300 in May 2025 to a peak near 4,000 in September 2025, before pulling back and leveling off around 1,500-1,600 through the first half of 2026. Facebook impressions stayed low throughout, ending around 650 in June 2026 — down from a high near 1,400 in late 2025.

Median post engagement rates this quarter:

  • Instagram: ~3.1%
  • Facebook: ~1.5%

Instagram engagement fluctuated between roughly 2.5% and 3.6% over the period, ending near 3.1% in June 2026. Facebook engagement rose gradually across the full year, climbing from below 1% in mid-2025 to about 1.5% by June 2026 — its highest point in the period.

Best-performing post types

Facebook: Live Video and standard Video continue to outperform other formats organically. In Q2 2026, Live Video generated a median of 20 post interactions, while standard Video reached 4.

Instagram: Carousel and Reel posts lead organic performance. Carousels generated a median of 38 post interactions this quarter; Reels reached 36.

Full organic post type performance (Q2 2026):

On Instagram, Reels, Images, and Carousels each account for roughly a third of posts published, with Reels and Carousels driving the majority of top-performing content.

How to use these benchmarks

These figures represent median performance across thousands of brand profiles in Emplifi’s dataset — they’re a useful calibration point, not a ceiling. If your Instagram engagement rate is sitting above 3.1%, you’re already ahead of the median for Electronics brands in Latin America; below it, there are likely content-mix improvements worth testing, particularly around Carousel and Reel formats.

Methodology

This report is produced quarterly using Emplifi’s proprietary social media dataset — one of the largest in the industry, drawn from the platform used by more than 20,000 brands worldwide.

Data collection: Data is pulled once per quarter and reflects the state of Emplifi’s database at the start of the quarter following the period analyzed. It is not updated between releases.

Sample: 689 Facebook brand pages and 411 Instagram brand profiles in Latin America, April 01, 2026–June 30, 2026.

Minimum thresholds: Reports require a minimum of 50 Instagram profiles and 50 Facebook pages for a given region and industry combination. Interaction distribution data requires a minimum of 300 profiles. Ad benchmarks require a minimum of 200 active ad accounts from the region or industry.

Key definitions

  • Interactions (Facebook): Sum of all reactions (Like, Love, Haha, Wow, Sorry, Anger), comments, and shares on brand-published posts. Care reactions are counted under Likes.
  • Interactions (Instagram): Sum of likes and comments on brand-published posts.
  • Median post interactions: The middle-ranked page or profile when sorted by monthly post interactions. Represents typical performance, not average — so outliers don’t skew the figure.
  • Relative median interactions: Median interactions indexed to the maximum value in the reporting period for each platform, expressed as a percentage. Useful for comparing directional trends across platforms at different absolute scales.
  • Impressions: The number of times a post was displayed, regardless of whether it was interacted with. Reflects reach rather than engagement.
  • Engagement rate: Interactions divided by follower/fan count, expressed as a percentage.
  • Organic: Posts not paid to be promoted, detected using Emplifi’s internal algorithm with near-100% accuracy.
  • CPC / CPM: Median cost per click and cost per thousand impressions across all available ad accounts, shown for the top 5 placements by relative spend.
  • Relative spend: Normalized distribution (%) showing the average share of an account’s budget allocated to each placement.
  • CTR: Median click-through rate for the top 5 placements by relative spend.

All costs are in USD. All figures are medians unless otherwise noted. Data is first normalized at the profile/page level before aggregation.

Frequently asked questions

Instagram. Across 30 industries, Instagram posts got higher user engagement than Facebook posts — with no exceptions. Instagram also led on activity volume (post frequency) in most verticals, and ran neck-and-neck with Facebook in the rest. If you’re deciding where to focus organic effort this quarter, Instagram is the stronger channel almost everywhere.

Reels and carousels. In nearly every industry we benchmarked, these two formats drove the highest median post interactions, often by a wide margin over photos and stories. Which one wins first place varies by industry, but the reel-carousel pairing is the consistent pattern.

The Facebook feed. It had the lowest cost per click worldwide, with Facebook Reels close behind as the second-cheapest placement. Instagram Stories was the lowest-CPC Instagram placement, but still came in behind both Facebook options.

E-commerce, by a wide margin — accounting for 37.4% of all brand-profile interactions on Instagram and 27.5% on Facebook. Retail and services follow as the next-largest categories on both platforms, with fashion also ranking high on Instagram specifically.

Brands using UGC saw a 19.88x increase in conversion rate, a 5.06x increase in website visits, and a 1.08x increase in average order value, compared to brands that don’t (Emplifi Brands UGC benchmark, Q2 2026). Conversion rate is where UGC makes the biggest difference.
