Emplifi Team Social Media Marketing Experts

What’s in this report

In Q2 2026, Finance brands in North America saw median post engagement rates of around 2.87% on Instagram, while Facebook trailed at roughly 1.38%. Ecommerce dominated interaction share across all industries on both platforms, while Video and Carousel/Reel formats led organic performance for Finance brands specifically.

This quarterly benchmarks report pulls from Emplifi’s dataset of 1,070 Facebook pages and 444 Instagram profiles across North America, covering April 1, 2026 through June 30, 2026.

Organic performance: Facebook and Instagram

Finance itself holds a modest share on both platforms — 1.3% of total Facebook interactions and 0.7% of total Instagram interactions among North America brand pages/profiles — placing it within the “Others” segment rather than the top 5 categories.

Services 10.1%
Retail 7.4%
Fashion 3.6%
Sporting Goods 3.2%

Platform landscape at a glance

In North America, Instagram brand profiles carry a lower median follower count than Facebook pages for Finance. The figures below reflect relative comparisons across all profiles in the sample at the end of Q2 2026; the underlying chart in this deck (a bubble/circle comparison) does not print exact numeric values, so directional comparisons are used instead.

Metric Instagram Facebook
Median followers / fans Lower Higher
Median posts published (quarter) Lower Higher
Median total interactions (quarter) Higher Lower

Activity volume on both platforms is higher on Facebook, while user engagement on Instagram outpaces Facebook.

Median post interactions

Median post interactions track the middle-ranked page or profile by monthly interactions — a measure of typical performance rather than outlier peaks.

Platform Q2 2026 median post interactions
Instagram 14
Facebook 6

Instagram median post interactions held well above Facebook’s throughout the past year, peaking near 19 in late 2025 before easing to around 14 by Q2 2026, while Facebook stayed flat in the 6–8 range across the full period.

Relative median post interactions

Relative median interactions index each platform’s performance against its own peak over the reporting period, making it easier to compare directional trends across platforms regardless of absolute scale.

By Q2 2026, both platforms had converged to around 74–75% of their respective peaks — Facebook slipping from a steady ~88% plateau held for most of the period, and Instagram recovering somewhat after dipping to about 68% in early 2026.

Median post impressions

Impressions measure how many times posts were displayed, regardless of interaction. This metric is available for both platforms and reflects reach rather than engagement.

Platform Q2 2026 median post impressions
Instagram 1,780
Facebook 1,450

Instagram impressions climbed sharply from about 1,300 in mid-2025, peaking near 3,800 in September before pulling back to roughly 1,780 by Q2 2026 — likely reflecting algorithmic reach patterns tied to Reels distribution. Facebook impressions stayed in a tighter 1,400–2,500 band throughout, ending around 1,450.

Median post engagement rates this quarter:

  • Instagram: ~2.87%
  • Facebook: ~1.38%

Instagram engagement held broadly steady in the high-2% range across the past year, while Facebook engagement stayed under 1% for most of the period before climbing to around 1.38% by Q2 2026.

Best-performing post types

Facebook: Live Video and standard Video continue to outperform other formats organically. In Q2 2026, Live Video generated a median of 1 post interactions, while standard Video reached 8. (Note: in this dataset, standard Video was actually the top-performing format overall, with Live Video the lowest — see full table below.)

Instagram: Carousel and Reel posts lead organic performance. Carousels generated a median of 22 post interactions this quarter; Reels reached 19.

Full organic post type performance (Q2 2026):

Post type Platform Median post interactions
Live Video Facebook 1
Video Facebook 8
Photo Facebook 6
Reel Facebook 7
Status Facebook 5
Link Facebook 3.5
Carousel Instagram 22
Reel Instagram 19
Image Instagram 9

Post type distribution trends:

On Facebook, Photo remains the dominant post format at around 67% of posts, though Reels are gaining share steadily — rising from near zero earlier in the year to approximately 22% by Q2 2026. On Instagram, Reels, Images, and Carousels each account for roughly a third of posts published, with Reels and Carousels driving the majority of top-performing content.

How to use these benchmarks

These figures represent median performance across thousands of brand profiles in Emplifi’s dataset — they’re a useful calibration point, not a ceiling. If your Facebook engagement rate is sitting above 1.38%, you’re already ahead of the median for North America Finance brands; below it, there are likely content-mix improvements worth testing.

Methodology

This report is produced quarterly using Emplifi’s proprietary social media dataset — one of the largest in the industry, drawn from the platform used by more than 20,000 brands worldwide.

Data collection: Data is pulled once per quarter and reflects the state of Emplifi’s database at the start of the quarter following the period analyzed. It is not updated between releases.

Sample: 1,070 Facebook brand pages and 444 Instagram brand profiles in North America, April 1, 2026–June 30, 2026.

Minimum thresholds: Reports require a minimum of 50 Instagram profiles and 50 Facebook pages for a given region and industry combination. Interaction distribution data requires a minimum of 300 profiles. Ad benchmarks require a minimum of 200 active ad accounts from the region or industry.

Key definitions

  • Interactions (Facebook): Sum of all reactions (Like, Love, Haha, Wow, Sorry, Anger), comments, and shares on brand-published posts. Care reactions are counted under Likes.
  • Interactions (Instagram): Sum of likes and comments on brand-published posts.
  • Median post interactions: The middle-ranked page or profile when sorted by monthly post interactions. Represents typical performance, not average — so outliers don’t skew the figure.
  • Relative median interactions: Median interactions indexed to the maximum value in the reporting period for each platform, expressed as a percentage. Useful for comparing directional trends across platforms at different absolute scales.
  • Impressions: The number of times a post was displayed, regardless of whether it was interacted with. Reflects reach rather than engagement.
  • Engagement rate: Interactions divided by follower/fan count, expressed as a percentage.
  • Organic: Posts not paid to be promoted, detected using Emplifi’s internal algorithm with near-100% accuracy.
  • CPC / CPM: Median cost per click and cost per thousand impressions across all available ad accounts, shown for the top 5 placements by relative spend.
  • Relative spend: Normalized distribution (%) showing the average share of an account’s budget allocated to each placement.
  • CTR: Median click-through rate for the top 5 placements by relative spend.

All costs are in USD. All figures are medians unless otherwise noted. Data is first normalized at the profile/page level before aggregation.

Frequently asked questions

Instagram. Across 30 industries, Instagram posts got higher user engagement than Facebook posts — with no exceptions. Instagram also led on activity volume (post frequency) in most verticals, and ran neck-and-neck with Facebook in the rest. If you’re deciding where to focus organic effort this quarter, Instagram is the stronger channel almost everywhere.

Reels and carousels. In nearly every industry we benchmarked, these two formats drove the highest median post interactions, often by a wide margin over photos and stories. Which one wins first place varies by industry, but the reel-carousel pairing is the consistent pattern.

The Facebook feed. It had the lowest cost per click worldwide, with Facebook Reels close behind as the second-cheapest placement. Instagram Stories was the lowest-CPC Instagram placement, but still came in behind both Facebook options.

E-commerce, by a wide margin — accounting for 37.4% of all brand-profile interactions on Instagram and 27.5% on Facebook. Retail and services follow as the next-largest categories on both platforms, with fashion also ranking high on Instagram specifically.

Brands using UGC saw a 19.88x increase in conversion rate, a 5.06x increase in website visits, and a 1.08x increase in average order value, compared to brands that don’t (Emplifi Brands UGC benchmark, Q2 2026). Conversion rate is where UGC makes the biggest difference.
