Data note: The source for this section is a circle/bubble chart with no printed numeric labels — only relative bubble sizes. We’re reporting the directional comparisons the chart supports rather than precise figures.

Metric Instagram Facebook
Median followers / fans Lower Higher
Median posts published (quarter) Higher Lower
Median total interactions (quarter) Higher Lower

Activity volume on both platforms is higher on Instagram, while user engagement on Instagram also outpaces Facebook.

Median post interactions

Median post interactions track the middle-ranked page or profile by monthly interactions — a measure of typical performance rather than outlier peaks.

Platform Q2 2026 median post interactions
Instagram ~30
Facebook ~20

Instagram median post interactions peaked at roughly 50 in mid-2025 before trending downward, dipping as low as approximately 33 in early 2026 and ending Q2 2026 at around 30. Facebook followed a similar downward arc, falling from a mid-2025 peak near 45 to a low of about 16 in March 2026 before closing the quarter at around 20.

Relative median post interactions

Relative median interactions index each platform’s performance against its own peak over the reporting period, making it easier to compare directional trends across platforms regardless of absolute scale.

By the end of Q2 2026, Facebook’s relative median interactions had fallen to around 44% of its 2025 peak, while Instagram held up somewhat better at about 60% of its own peak — both platforms trended downward overall after a brief rebound in April 2026.

Median post impressions

Impressions measure how many times posts were displayed, regardless of interaction. This metric is available for both platforms and reflects reach rather than engagement.

Platform Q2 2026 median post impressions
Instagram ~2,250
Facebook ~1,150

Instagram impressions climbed sharply through mid-2025, peaking near 6,000 in September before pulling back and settling around 2,250 by Q2 2026 — likely reflecting algorithmic reach patterns tied to Reels distribution. Facebook impressions stayed comparatively low and flat throughout the period, ending the quarter at roughly 1,150.

Median post engagement rates this quarter:

  • Instagram: ~3.9%
  • Facebook: ~1.1%

Instagram engagement has held broadly steady in the 3.4%–4.0% range across the past year, dipping briefly around December 2025 before recovering to approximately 3.9% by Q2 2026. Facebook engagement has stayed close to flat around 1% throughout, ending the quarter slightly higher at roughly 1.1%.

Best-performing post types

Facebook: Link and Live Video posts continue to outperform other formats organically this quarter — a variation from the more typical Video/Live Video pattern seen in other markets. In Q2 2026, Link posts generated a median of 53 post interactions, while Live Video reached 47.

Instagram: Carousel and Reel posts lead organic performance. Carousels generated a median of 47 post interactions this quarter; Reels reached 46.

Full organic post type performance (Q2 2026):

Post type Platform Median post interactions
Live Video Facebook 47
Video Facebook 5
Photo Facebook 10
Reel Facebook 11
Status Facebook 4
Link Facebook 53
Carousel Instagram 47
Reel Instagram 46

Post type distribution trends:

On Facebook, Photo remains the dominant post format at around 65% of posts, though Reels are gaining share steadily — rising from roughly 3–5% earlier in the year to approximately 31% by Q2 2026. On Instagram, Reels, Images, and Carousels each account for roughly a third of posts published, with Reels and Carousels driving the majority of top-performing content.

How to use these benchmarks

These figures represent median performance across thousands of brand profiles in Emplifi’s dataset — they’re a useful calibration point, not a ceiling. If your Instagram engagement rate is sitting above 3.9%, you’re already ahead of the median for Asia Pacific alcohol brands; below it, there are likely content-mix improvements — such as leaning further into Carousels and Reels — worth testing.

Methodology

This report is produced quarterly using Emplifi’s proprietary social media dataset — one of the largest in the industry, drawn from the platform used by more than 20,000 brands worldwide.

Data collection: Data is pulled once per quarter and reflects the state of Emplifi’s database at the start of the quarter following the period analyzed. It is not updated between releases.

Sample: 368 Facebook brand pages and 186 Instagram brand profiles in Asia Pacific, April 1, 2026–June 30, 2026.

Minimum thresholds: Reports require a minimum of 50 Instagram profiles and 50 Facebook pages for a given region and industry combination. Interaction distribution data requires a minimum of 300 profiles. Ad benchmarks require a minimum of 200 active ad accounts from the region or industry.

Key definitions

  • Interactions (Facebook): Sum of all reactions (Like, Love, Haha, Wow, Sorry, Anger), comments, and shares on brand-published posts. Care reactions are counted under Likes.
  • Interactions (Instagram): Sum of likes and comments on brand-published posts.
  • Median post interactions: The middle-ranked page or profile when sorted by monthly post interactions. Represents typical performance, not average — so outliers don’t skew the figure.
  • Relative median interactions: Median interactions indexed to the maximum value in the reporting period for each platform, expressed as a percentage. Useful for comparing directional trends across platforms at different absolute scales.
  • Impressions: The number of times a post was displayed, regardless of whether it was interacted with. Reflects reach rather than engagement.
  • Engagement rate: Interactions divided by follower/fan count, expressed as a percentage.
  • Organic: Posts not paid to be promoted, detected using Emplifi’s internal algorithm with near-100% accuracy.
  • CPC / CPM: Median cost per click and cost per thousand impressions across all available ad accounts, shown for the top 5 placements by relative spend.
  • Relative spend: Normalized distribution (%) showing the average share of an account’s budget allocated to each placement.
  • CTR: Median click-through rate for the top 5 placements by relative spend.

All costs are in USD. All figures are medians unless otherwise noted. Data is first normalized at the profile/page level before aggregation.

Frequently asked questions

Instagram. Across 30 industries, Instagram posts got higher user engagement than Facebook posts — with no exceptions. Instagram also led on activity volume (post frequency) in most verticals, and ran neck-and-neck with Facebook in the rest. If you’re deciding where to focus organic effort this quarter, Instagram is the stronger channel almost everywhere.

Reels and carousels. In nearly every industry we benchmarked, these two formats drove the highest median post interactions, often by a wide margin over photos and stories. Which one wins first place varies by industry, but the reel-carousel pairing is the consistent pattern.

The Facebook feed. It had the lowest cost per click worldwide, with Facebook Reels close behind as the second-cheapest placement. Instagram Stories was the lowest-CPC Instagram placement, but still came in behind both Facebook options.

E-commerce, by a wide margin — accounting for 37.4% of all brand-profile interactions on Instagram and 27.5% on Facebook. Retail and services follow as the next-largest categories on both platforms, with fashion also ranking high on Instagram specifically.

Brands using UGC saw a 19.88x increase in conversion rate, a 5.06x increase in website visits, and a 1.08x increase in average order value, compared to brands that don’t (Emplifi Brands UGC benchmark, Q2 2026). Conversion rate is where UGC makes the biggest difference.
