Platform landscape at a glance

In Middle East Markets, Instagram Beverages profiles carry a lower median follower count than Facebook pages carry in fans. The chart behind this comparison doesn’t print exact figures — Emplifi represents relative scale as sized bubbles rather than labeled values — so the figures below are described directionally rather than as precise medians.

Metric Instagram Facebook
Median followers / fans Lower Higher
Median posts published (quarter) Comparable Comparable
Median total interactions (quarter) Higher Lower

Activity volume on both platforms is roughly comparable, while user engagement on Instagram outpaces Facebook.

Median post interactions

Median post interactions track the middle-ranked page or profile by monthly interactions — a measure of typical performance rather than outlier peaks.

Platform Q2 2026 median post interactions
Instagram ~25
Facebook ~6

Instagram median post interactions have held in the high-teens-to-mid-20s range for the past year, dipping to around 18–20 at a couple of points (July 2025, February 2026) before recovering to around 25 by June 2026. Facebook held much lower and flatter throughout, mostly in the 6–10 range with no clear trend.

Relative median post interactions

Relative median interactions index each platform’s performance against its own peak over the reporting period, making it easier to compare directional trends across platforms regardless of absolute scale.

By June 2026, Instagram’s relative median interactions sat at around 94% of its own peak, close to its high point for the period. Facebook was more volatile, spiking to 100% of its peak in August 2025 before ending the period around 59% — its lowest point since spring 2025.

Median post impressions

Impressions measure how many times posts were displayed, regardless of interaction. This metric is available for both platforms and reflects reach rather than engagement.

Note: Emplifi’s Middle East Markets Beverages sample did not clear the threshold required for this specific chart, so the deck substitutes a Worldwide Beverages benchmark (3,674 Facebook pages and 1,820 Instagram profiles) for median post impressions and engagement rate. The figures below reflect Worldwide Beverages performance, not Middle East Markets specifically.

Platform Q2 2026 median post impressions (Worldwide Beverages)
Instagram ~950
Facebook ~1,300

Facebook impressions peaked around 3,300 in July 2025 before declining with periodic spikes (notably back up to roughly 2,300 in December 2025 and March 2026), ending near 1,300 in June 2026. Instagram impressions climbed early, peaked near 2,800 around September 2025, then declined steadily to approximately 950 by the end of the period.

Median post engagement rates this quarter (Worldwide Beverages benchmark — see impressions note above regarding sample threshold):

  • Instagram: ~4.05%
  • Facebook: ~1.35%

Instagram engagement climbed gradually through the back half of the period, ending near its highest point of the year at around 4.05%. Facebook engagement stayed close to flat around 1% for most of the year, ticking up slightly to around 1.35% by June 2026.

Best-performing post types

Facebook: Reel and Photo were the top-performing organic formats this quarter. In Q2 2026, Reel generated a median of 8 post interactions, while Photo also reached 8. Live Video had negligible post volume in Middle East Markets this quarter and is not separately reported.

Instagram: Carousel and Reel posts lead organic performance. Carousels generated a median of 34 post interactions this quarter; Reels also reached 34.

On Instagram, Reels, Images, and Carousels each account for roughly a third of posts published, with Reels and Carousels driving the majority of top-performing content.

How to use these benchmarks

These figures represent median performance across thousands of brand profiles in Emplifi’s dataset — they’re a useful calibration point, not a ceiling. If your Instagram engagement rate is above roughly 4%, you’re ahead of the Beverages benchmark; if your Facebook Reel or Photo posts are generating fewer than 8 median interactions, there’s likely room to tighten your content mix.

Methodology

This report is produced quarterly using Emplifi’s proprietary social media dataset — one of the largest in the industry, drawn from the platform used by more than 20,000 brands worldwide.

Data collection: Data is pulled once per quarter and reflects the state of Emplifi’s database at the start of the quarter following the period analyzed. It is not updated between releases.

Sample: 65 Facebook brand pages and 68 Instagram brand profiles in Middle East Markets, April 1, 2026–June 30, 2026.

Minimum thresholds: Reports require a minimum of 50 Instagram profiles and 50 Facebook pages for a given region and industry combination. Interaction distribution data requires a minimum of 300 profiles. Ad benchmarks require a minimum of 200 active ad accounts from the region or industry.

Key definitions

  • Interactions (Facebook): Sum of all reactions (Like, Love, Haha, Wow, Sorry, Anger), comments, and shares on brand-published posts. Care reactions are counted under Likes.
  • Interactions (Instagram): Sum of likes and comments on brand-published posts.
  • Median post interactions: The middle-ranked page or profile when sorted by monthly post interactions. Represents typical performance, not average — so outliers don’t skew the figure.
  • Relative median interactions: Median interactions indexed to the maximum value in the reporting period for each platform, expressed as a percentage. Useful for comparing directional trends across platforms at different absolute scales.
  • Impressions: The number of times a post was displayed, regardless of whether it was interacted with. Reflects reach rather than engagement.
  • Engagement rate: Interactions divided by follower/fan count, expressed as a percentage.
  • Organic: Posts not paid to be promoted, detected using Emplifi’s internal algorithm with near-100% accuracy.
  • CPC / CPM: Median cost per click and cost per thousand impressions across all available ad accounts, shown for the top 5 placements by relative spend.
  • Relative spend: Normalized distribution (%) showing the average share of an account’s budget allocated to each placement.
  • CTR: Median click-through rate for the top 5 placements by relative spend.

All costs are in USD. All figures are medians unless otherwise noted. Data is first normalized at the profile/page level before aggregation.

Frequently asked questions

Instagram. Across 30 industries, Instagram posts got higher user engagement than Facebook posts — with no exceptions. Instagram also led on activity volume (post frequency) in most verticals, and ran neck-and-neck with Facebook in the rest. If you’re deciding where to focus organic effort this quarter, Instagram is the stronger channel almost everywhere.

Reels and carousels. In nearly every industry we benchmarked, these two formats drove the highest median post interactions, often by a wide margin over photos and stories. Which one wins first place varies by industry, but the reel-carousel pairing is the consistent pattern.

The Facebook feed. It had the lowest cost per click worldwide, with Facebook Reels close behind as the second-cheapest placement. Instagram Stories was the lowest-CPC Instagram placement, but still came in behind both Facebook options.

E-commerce, by a wide margin — accounting for 37.4% of all brand-profile interactions on Instagram and 27.5% on Facebook. Retail and services follow as the next-largest categories on both platforms, with fashion also ranking high on Instagram specifically.

Brands using UGC saw a 19.88x increase in conversion rate, a 5.06x increase in website visits, and a 1.08x increase in average order value, compared to brands that don’t (Emplifi Brands UGC benchmark, Q2 2026). Conversion rate is where UGC makes the biggest difference.
