Emplifi Team Social Media Marketing Experts

What’s in this report

In Q2 2026, Education brands worldwide saw Instagram post engagement rates of around 3.6%, well ahead of Facebook at roughly 1.1%. Ecommerce still drove the largest share of interactions on both platforms, but within Education, Carousel and Reel posts led organic performance on Instagram while Live Video and Status posts stood out on Facebook. Physics Wallah (PW) topped Instagram’s top-profiles ranking, and Jagran Josh led Facebook pages by total interactions.

This quarterly benchmarks report pulls from Emplifi’s dataset of 17,197 Facebook pages and 4,478 Instagram profiles across Worldwide, covering April 1, 2026 through June 30, 2026.

Platform landscape at a glance

In Worldwide, Instagram brand profiles carry a higher median follower count than Facebook pages. The figures below reflect qualitative comparisons across all profiles in the sample at the end of Q2 2026 (the underlying chart does not expose exact values).

Metric Instagram Facebook

Median posts published (quarter) Roughly comparable to Facebook Roughly comparable to Instagram
Median total interactions (quarter) Higher than Facebook Lower than Instagram

Activity volume on both platforms is roughly comparable, while user engagement on Instagram outpaces Facebook.

Median post interactions

Median post interactions track the middle-ranked page or profile by monthly interactions — a measure of typical performance rather than outlier peaks.

Platform Q2 2026 median post interactions
Instagram ~80
Facebook ~5

Instagram median post interactions have ranged between roughly 70 and 90 over the past year, peaking near September 2025 before settling back to around 80 by June 2026. Facebook has remained essentially flat at low single digits throughout the same period.

Relative median post interactions

Relative median interactions index each platform’s performance against its own peak over the reporting period, making it easier to compare directional trends across platforms regardless of absolute scale.

Facebook’s relative median interactions held close to its 12-month peak through most of 2025 before slipping to around 85% of peak by Q2 2026. Instagram’s index dipped to a low of roughly 78% in early 2026 before recovering to about 90% of its peak by June 2026 — a slightly choppier path than Facebook’s.

Median post impressions

Impressions measure how many times posts were displayed, regardless of interaction. This metric is available for both platforms and reflects reach rather than engagement.

Platform Q2 2026 median post impressions
Instagram ~2,300
Facebook ~800

Instagram impressions climbed sharply from mid-2025, peaking near 5,300 in September before pulling back to approximately 2,300 by Q2 2026 — likely reflecting algorithmic reach patterns tied to Reels distribution. Facebook impressions remained low and flat throughout, hovering between 700 and 900.

Engagement rate trends

Median post engagement rates this quarter:

  • Instagram: ~3.6%
  • Facebook: ~1.1%

Instagram engagement has stayed in a fairly tight 3.3%–3.9% band over the past year with no clear directional trend, while Facebook engagement has held steady at just over 1%, showing only marginal movement quarter to quarter.

Best-performing post types

Facebook: Live Video and Status continue to outperform other formats organically. In Q2 2026, Live Video generated a median of 18 post interactions, while Status reached 6.

Instagram: Carousel and Reel posts lead organic performance. Carousels generated a median of 105 post interactions this quarter; Reels reached 87.

Full organic post type performance (Q2 2026):

Video Facebook ~4
Photo Facebook ~4
Reel Facebook ~5
Status Facebook 6

Carousel Instagram 105

On Instagram, Reels, Images, and Carousels each account for roughly a third of posts published, with Reels and Carousels driving the majority of top-performing content.

How to use these benchmarks

These figures represent median performance across thousands of brand profiles in Emplifi’s dataset — they’re a useful calibration point, not a ceiling. If your Education brand’s Instagram engagement rate is sitting above 3.6%, you’re already ahead of the median; below it, there are likely content-mix improvements — more Carousels and Reels, less static Photo posting — worth testing.

Frequently asked questions

Instagram. Across 30 industries, Instagram posts got higher user engagement than Facebook posts — with no exceptions. Instagram also led on activity volume (post frequency) in most verticals, and ran neck-and-neck with Facebook in the rest. If you’re deciding where to focus organic effort this quarter, Instagram is the stronger channel almost everywhere.

Reels and carousels. In nearly every industry we benchmarked, these two formats drove the highest median post interactions, often by a wide margin over photos and stories. Which one wins first place varies by industry, but the reel-carousel pairing is the consistent pattern.

The Facebook feed. It had the lowest cost per click worldwide, with Facebook Reels close behind as the second-cheapest placement. Instagram Stories was the lowest-CPC Instagram placement, but still came in behind both Facebook options.

E-commerce, by a wide margin — accounting for 37.4% of all brand-profile interactions on Instagram and 27.5% on Facebook. Retail and services follow as the next-largest categories on both platforms, with fashion also ranking high on Instagram specifically.

Brands using UGC saw a 19.88x increase in conversion rate, a 5.06x increase in website visits, and a 1.08x increase in average order value, compared to brands that don’t (Emplifi Brands UGC benchmark, Q2 2026). Conversion rate is where UGC makes the biggest difference.
