Note: this deck’s historical cost-trend charts (CPC, CPM, and CTR over time) are only broken out at the Australia and New Zealand regional level, not by entertainment industry specifically — even though the current-quarter placement-level breakdowns above do include a dedicated entertainment cut. As a result, both columns above reflect the same regional trend data rather than a distinct entertainment-only historical series. CPC ranged between roughly $0.36 and $0.53 over the past year, ending Q2 2026 at approximately $0.45. CPM trended upward, climbing from around $3.10 in mid-2025 to approximately $4.53 by Q2 2026. CTR also rose steadily over the period, from about 1.0% to roughly 1.18% by Q2 2026.
These figures represent median performance across thousands of brand profiles in Emplifi’s dataset — they’re a useful calibration point, not a ceiling. If your Instagram engagement rate is above roughly 3.6%, you’re outperforming the median for Australia and New Zealand entertainment brands; if your Facebook ad CTR trails 2.3% on Facebook Feed, that placement is likely your fastest opportunity to close the gap.
This report is produced quarterly using Emplifi’s proprietary social media dataset — one of the largest in the industry, drawn from the platform used by more than 20,000 brands worldwide.
Data collection: Data is pulled once per quarter and reflects the state of Emplifi’s database at the start of the quarter following the period analyzed. It is not updated between releases.
Sample: 443 Facebook brand pages and 244 Instagram brand profiles in Australia and New Zealand, April 1, 2026–June 30, 2026.
Minimum thresholds: Reports require a minimum of 50 Instagram profiles and 50 Facebook pages for a given region and industry combination. Interaction distribution data requires a minimum of 300 profiles. Ad benchmarks require a minimum of 200 active ad accounts from the region or industry.
All costs are in USD. All figures are medians unless otherwise noted. Data is first normalized at the profile/page level before aggregation.
Instagram. Across 30 industries, Instagram posts got higher user engagement than Facebook posts — with no exceptions. Instagram also led on activity volume (post frequency) in most verticals, and ran neck-and-neck with Facebook in the rest. If you’re deciding where to focus organic effort this quarter, Instagram is the stronger channel almost everywhere.
Reels and carousels. In nearly every industry we benchmarked, these two formats drove the highest median post interactions, often by a wide margin over photos and stories. Which one wins first place varies by industry, but the reel-carousel pairing is the consistent pattern.
The Facebook feed. It had the lowest cost per click worldwide, with Facebook Reels close behind as the second-cheapest placement. Instagram Stories was the lowest-CPC Instagram placement, but still came in behind both Facebook options.
E-commerce, by a wide margin — accounting for 37.4% of all brand-profile interactions on Instagram and 27.5% on Facebook. Retail and services follow as the next-largest categories on both platforms, with fashion also ranking high on Instagram specifically.
Brands using UGC saw a 19.88x increase in conversion rate, a 5.06x increase in website visits, and a 1.08x increase in average order value, compared to brands that don’t (Emplifi Brands UGC benchmark, Q2 2026). Conversion rate is where UGC makes the biggest difference.
