North America Social Media Benchmarks: Fashion Q2 2026

Emplifi Team Social Media Marketing Experts

What’s in this report

In Q2 2026, North America fashion brands on Instagram saw median post engagement rates of around 2.8%, while Facebook trailed at under 1%. Ecommerce held the largest interaction share on both platforms, with Fashion ranking 4th on Facebook and 3rd on Instagram among all categories. Reels and Carousels remained the strongest organic Instagram formats, while Live Video led on Facebook.

This quarterly benchmarks report pulls from Emplifi’s dataset of 1,235 Facebook pages and 1,193 Instagram profiles across North America, covering April 1, 2026 through June 30, 2026.

User-generated content: what’s achievable

Brands using Emplifi’s UGC solution this quarter saw:

  • 8.02x increase in conversion rate
  • 4.31x increase in website visits
  • 1.01x increase in average order value

These figures represent the median uplift seen across Emplifi’s Fashion UGC Accounts Benchmark for Q2 2026. Fashion is one of the larger verticals with its own dedicated UGC benchmark slide, distinct from the generic cross-industry figures used elsewhere.

Platform landscape at a glance

In North America, Instagram fashion profiles carry a higher median follower count than Facebook pages. The source chart for this slide (a bubble/circle comparison) does not publish exact axis values — only relative bubble sizes — so the table below reflects directional comparisons rather than precise figures.

Metric Instagram Facebook
Median followers / fans Higher Lower
Median posts published (quarter) Higher Lower
Median total interactions (quarter) Higher Lower

Activity volume is higher on Instagram than on Facebook, while user engagement on Instagram also outpaces Facebook.

Median post interactions

Median post interactions track the middle-ranked page or profile by monthly interactions — a measure of typical performance rather than outlier peaks.

Platform Q2 2026 median post interactions
Instagram ~29
Facebook ~5

Instagram median post interactions declined steadily from around 43 in May 2025 to the high-20s/low-30s range by mid-2026, while Facebook held low and roughly flat between 5 and 8 across the full period.

Relative median post interactions

Relative median interactions index each platform’s performance against its own peak over the reporting period, making it easier to compare directional trends across platforms regardless of absolute scale.

By Q2 2026, Facebook’s relative median interactions had fallen to around 62% after repeatedly touching its own peak (100%) earlier in the period, while Instagram declined more steadily from its early peak to end around 67% — a smaller relative drop than Facebook’s.

Median post impressions

Impressions measure how many times posts were displayed, regardless of interaction. This metric is available for both platforms and reflects reach rather than engagement.

Platform Q2 2026 median post impressions
Instagram ~14,500
Facebook ~2,300

Instagram impressions climbed sharply through mid-2025, peaking near 36,000 around August 2025, before pulling back to roughly 14,500 by Q2 2026. Facebook impressions stayed low and comparatively flat throughout, ending around 2,300.

Median post engagement rates this quarter:

  • Instagram: ~2.8%
  • Facebook: ~0.93%

Instagram engagement held broadly steady in the 2.4%–2.8% range across the full period, while Facebook stayed low throughout but ticked up slightly toward the end of Q2 2026 compared to earlier quarters.

Best-performing post types

Facebook: Live Video and standard Reel continue to outperform other formats organically. In Q2 2026, Live Video generated a median of 14 post interactions, while Reel reached 7.

Instagram: Carousel and Reel posts lead organic performance, both generating a median of 36 post interactions this quarter.

Full organic post type performance (Q2 2026):

Post type Platform Median post interactions
Live Video Facebook 14
Video Facebook 4
Photo Facebook 4
Reel Facebook 7
Status Facebook 3
Link Facebook 3
Carousel Instagram 36
Reel Instagram 36
Image Instagram 15

Post type distribution trends:

On Facebook, Photo remains the dominant post format at around 61% of posts, though Reels are gaining share steadily — rising from near zero earlier in the year to approximately 31% by Q2 2026. On Instagram, Reels, Images, and Carousels each account for roughly a third of posts published, with Reels and Carousels driving the majority of top-performing content.

How to use these benchmarks

These figures represent median performance across thousands of brand profiles in Emplifi’s dataset — they’re a useful calibration point, not a ceiling. If your Instagram engagement rate is above 2.8%, you’re already ahead of the North America fashion median; below it, there are likely content-mix improvements — more Reels and Carousels, in particular — worth testing.

Methodology

This report is produced quarterly using Emplifi’s proprietary social media dataset — one of the largest in the industry, drawn from the platform used by more than 20,000 brands worldwide.

Data collection: Data is pulled once per quarter and reflects the state of Emplifi’s database at the start of the quarter following the period analyzed. It is not updated between releases.

Sample: 1,235 Facebook brand pages and 1,193 Instagram brand profiles in North America, April 1, 2026–June 30, 2026.

Minimum thresholds: Reports require a minimum of 50 Instagram profiles and 50 Facebook pages for a given region and industry combination. Interaction distribution data requires a minimum of 300 profiles. Ad benchmarks require a minimum of 200 active ad accounts from the region or industry.

Key definitions

  • Interactions (Facebook): Sum of all reactions (Like, Love, Haha, Wow, Sorry, Anger), comments, and shares on brand-published posts. Care reactions are counted under Likes.
  • Interactions (Instagram): Sum of likes and comments on brand-published posts.
  • Median post interactions: The middle-ranked page or profile when sorted by monthly post interactions. Represents typical performance, not average — so outliers don’t skew the figure.
  • Relative median interactions: Median interactions indexed to the maximum value in the reporting period for each platform, expressed as a percentage. Useful for comparing directional trends across platforms at different absolute scales.
  • Impressions: The number of times a post was displayed, regardless of whether it was interacted with. Reflects reach rather than engagement.
  • Engagement rate: Interactions divided by follower/fan count, expressed as a percentage.
  • Organic: Posts not paid to be promoted, detected using Emplifi’s internal algorithm with near-100% accuracy.
  • CPC / CPM: Median cost per click and cost per thousand impressions across all available ad accounts, shown for the top 5 placements by relative spend.
  • Relative spend: Normalized distribution (%) showing the average share of an account’s budget allocated to each placement.
  • CTR: Median click-through rate for the top 5 placements by relative spend.

All costs are in USD. All figures are medians unless otherwise noted. Data is first normalized at the profile/page level before aggregation.

Frequently asked questions

Instagram. Across 30 industries, Instagram posts got higher user engagement than Facebook posts — with no exceptions. Instagram also led on activity volume (post frequency) in most verticals, and ran neck-and-neck with Facebook in the rest. If you’re deciding where to focus organic effort this quarter, Instagram is the stronger channel almost everywhere.

Reels and carousels. In nearly every industry we benchmarked, these two formats drove the highest median post interactions, often by a wide margin over photos and stories. Which one wins first place varies by industry, but the reel-carousel pairing is the consistent pattern.

The Facebook feed. It had the lowest cost per click worldwide, with Facebook Reels close behind as the second-cheapest placement. Instagram Stories was the lowest-CPC Instagram placement, but still came in behind both Facebook options.

E-commerce, by a wide margin — accounting for 37.4% of all brand-profile interactions on Instagram and 27.5% on Facebook. Retail and services follow as the next-largest categories on both platforms, with fashion also ranking high on Instagram specifically.

Brands using UGC saw a 19.88x increase in conversion rate, a 5.06x increase in website visits, and a 1.08x increase in average order value, compared to brands that don’t (Emplifi Brands UGC benchmark, Q2 2026). Conversion rate is where UGC makes the biggest difference.
