Europe airline social media benchmarks for Q3 2026 show Instagram earning about 10 times as much per post as Facebook: the median airline in Europe earned 471.5 interactions per Instagram post in September, against 46 on Facebook. Median engagement reached up to 1.96% on Instagram and up to 0.85% on Facebook across the quarter. Carousels led on Instagram while Reels, the format airlines post most, came last, and Facebook interactions fell to their lowest point of the 15 months.
This quarterly benchmarks report draws on Emplifi’s dataset of 147 Facebook pages and 63 Instagram profiles in the Europe airlines category, covering July 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2026.
Brands using Emplifi’s UGC solution saw these average uplifts in Q3 2026:
The figures come from Emplifi’s Worldwide Brands UGC benchmark, averaged across 68 to 83 accounts per metric. That benchmark covers brands in every category and region worldwide, so it is not specific to airline brands in Europe.
Interactions in Europe are widely spread. On Facebook, ecommerce (18.6%) and finance (17.6%) lead the categories broken out in the data, but the remaining categories combined take almost half. On Instagram, retail and ecommerce are level at about 16.7% each, with fashion third.
Facebook interaction distribution (Q3 2026):
| Category | Share of total interactions |
|---|---|
| Ecommerce | 18.6% |
| Finance | 17.6% |
| Retail | 6.6% |
| Services | 5.0% |
| Fashion | 2.5% |
| Others | 49.7% |
Instagram interaction distribution (Q3 2026):
| Category | Share of total interactions |
|---|---|
| Retail | 16.7% |
| Ecommerce | 16.6% |
| Fashion | 12.7% |
| Beauty | 9.7% |
| Auto | 9.2% |
| Others | 35.1% |
The categories listed are those with the most brand posts in the region, ranked by their share of interactions. Others combines every remaining category, airlines included.
European airlines have almost identical audiences on the two platforms, about 137,000 followers each at the median. Instagram gets more posts and collects more than 10 times the interactions over the quarter.
| Metric | ||
|---|---|---|
| Median followers / fans | 136,467 | 137,655 |
| Median posts published (quarter) | 42 | 31 |
| Median total interactions (quarter) | 37,992 | 3,595 |
This metric follows the middle-ranked page or profile each month, so a handful of viral accounts can’t inflate it.

Instagram swings from month to month, between a low of 329 in June 2026 and a high of 539.5 in December 2025, and finished the quarter near the top of that range. Facebook has fallen almost steadily, from 112 in July 2025 to 46 in September 2026.
Indexing each platform to its own 15-month peak makes the two easier to compare despite their different scales.
Instagram ended September 2026 at 87% of its December 2025 high. Facebook finished at 41% of its July 2025 peak, the lowest point of the period for either platform.
Impressions count how often posts were displayed, whether or not anyone interacted. They measure visibility, not engagement.
| Platform | Q3 2026 median post impressions |
|---|---|
| 54,266 | |
| 8,293 |
Instagram impressions have recovered. They dropped to 26,384 in February 2026, less than half their December 2025 peak of 59,385, then climbed back to between 54,000 and 58,000 in Q3. Facebook impressions are less than half their July 2025 level of 17,475, though September sits above the February 2026 low. Facebook’s decline is not specific to airlines: median Facebook impressions for all brands in Europe fell from 1,808 in July 2025 to 1,025 in September 2026.
Median post engagement rates this quarter:
Across the quarter’s three months, Instagram’s median ranged from 1.64% to 1.96% and Facebook’s from 0.81% to 0.85%. Instagram moved between 1.57% and 2.11% over the 15 months, with no clear trend, and Facebook held between 0.75% and 0.97%.
From this quarter, Emplifi calculates engagement rate from impressions instead of reach, because Facebook no longer provides reach data. These rates are therefore not comparable with the engagement rates in earlier quarterly reports.
Facebook: The four formats sit close together. Reels led with a median of 48 interactions, ahead of photos (37.5), status updates (36.5) and links (33).
Instagram: The Facebook order is reversed. Carousels led at 551 interactions per post, single images followed at 484, and Reels came last at 405.

On Instagram, test whether carousels and strong single images beat your Reels, as they do for the median European airline. On Facebook, Reels lead but the gap is small, so the content matters more than the format.
This report is produced quarterly from Emplifi’s proprietary social media dataset, drawn from the platform used by more than 22,000 brands worldwide.
Data collection: Data is pulled once per quarter and reflects the state of Emplifi’s database at the start of the quarter following the period analyzed. It is not updated between releases.
Sample: 147 Facebook brand pages and 63 Instagram brand profiles in the Europe airline category, July 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2026.
Reporting period: Monthly metrics are reported for September 2026, the final month of the quarter, and trend commentary covers July 2025 through September 2026. The ads trend series also covers July 2025 through September 2026.
Minimum thresholds: Reports require a minimum of 50 Instagram profiles and 50 Facebook pages for a given region and industry combination. Interaction distribution data requires a minimum of 300 profiles. Ad benchmarks require a minimum of 200 active ad accounts from the region or industry.
All costs are in USD. All figures are medians unless otherwise noted; UGC uplifts are averages. Data is first normalized at the profile or page level before aggregation.
They earned the least of the three formats in Q3 2026: a median of 405 interactions per post, against 551 for carousels and 484 for single images. Reels were still the most-used format, at 41.4% of posts in September 2026. A free social media assessment shows which formats work for your own profiles.
Anything consistently above 1.96% put an airline ahead of the European median in every month of Q3 2026. The monthly median ranged from 1.64% to 1.96% across the quarter, against 0.81% to 0.85% on Facebook.
The data shows the decline, not its cause. The median airline’s Facebook post earned 46 interactions in September 2026, down from 112 in July 2025, and median Facebook impressions fell by more than half over the same period. Facebook impressions also fell for brands in Europe as a whole.
The median airline published 42 Instagram posts and 31 Facebook posts in Q3 2026, about three a week and between two and three a week respectively.
Facebook feed, at a median CPC of $0.30 in Q3 2026, with the lowest CPM ($3.81) and the highest CTR (1.62%) of the five biggest placements. These figures come from Emplifi’s Europe ad accounts benchmark, because airlines have no separate ad benchmark this quarter.
