What’s in this report

Baby food social media benchmarks for Q3 2026 show both platforms losing ground, with Instagram still far ahead: the median baby food brand’s Instagram post earned 16 interactions in September, against three on Facebook, the lowest point of 15 months on both. Median engagement reached up to 1.73% on Instagram and up to 0.17% on Facebook across the quarter. Carousels led on Instagram, and on Facebook a handful of Live Videos outperformed every other format many times over.

This quarterly benchmarks report draws on Emplifi’s dataset of 357 Facebook pages and 153 Instagram profiles in the worldwide baby food category, covering July 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2026.

User-generated content: what’s achievable

Brands using Emplifi’s UGC solution saw these average uplifts in Q3 2026:

  • 11.49x conversion rate
  • 4.84x repeat website visits
  • 1.03x average order value

The figures come from Emplifi’s Worldwide Brands UGC benchmark, averaged across 68 to 83 accounts per metric. That benchmark covers brands in every category, so it is not specific to baby food.

Organic performance: Facebook and Instagram

Interaction share by industry

Ecommerce brands collect the largest share of Facebook interactions of any category broken out in the data, and fashion leads Instagram by a wide margin. The data counts baby food within FMCG food, which earns more than its posting weight on Facebook: 3.0% of brand posts and 4.2% of interactions, enough for fourth place in the table. On Instagram it is far smaller, with 1.1% of posts and 0.9% of interactions.

Facebook interaction distribution (Q3 2026):

Category Share of total interactions
Ecommerce 31.3%
Finance 7.8%
Services 4.8%
FMCG food 4.2%
Auto 4.1%
Others 47.9%

Instagram interaction distribution (Q3 2026):

Category Share of total interactions
Fashion 40.4%
Beauty 13.5%
Ecommerce 8.3%
Sporting goods 7.4%
Auto 5.1%
Others 25.1%

The table ranks the region’s six highest-posting categories, plus FMCG food as baby food’s own category, by share of interactions. Others combines every remaining category.

Platform landscape at a glance

Baby food brands have much bigger audiences on Facebook, where the median page has more than twice the fans of the median Instagram profile. Instagram posts more often and collects about nine times the interactions over the quarter.

Metric Instagram Facebook
Median followers / fans 26,248 63,334
Median posts published (quarter) 22 15
Median total interactions (quarter) 740 82

Median post interactions

The median follows the middle-ranked page or profile each month, so a few viral brands can’t distort it.

Platform Q3 2026 median post interactions
Instagram 16
Facebook 3

Instagram rose to 24 in January and February 2026, then slipped to 16 in September, the lowest point of the period. Facebook halved over the 15 months, from six in July 2025 to three in August and September 2026.

Relative median post interactions

Indexed to each platform’s own 15-month high, Instagram ended September at 67% of its early-2026 peak and Facebook at 50% of its July 2025 level. Both closed the quarter at their lowest readings.

Median post impressions

Impressions count how often posts were displayed, whether or not anyone interacted. They measure visibility, not engagement.

Platform Q3 2026 median post impressions
Instagram 1,207
Facebook 621

Instagram posts were displayed about twice as often as Facebook posts in September. Instagram impressions have swung widely, between about 1,100 and 3,200, with no steady direction. Facebook climbed to a peak of 2,741 in December 2025, then fell to less than a quarter of that by September 2026. The fall is broader than baby food: median Facebook impressions for brands worldwide fell from about 1,500 in July 2025 to 779 in September 2026.

Engagement rate trends

Median post engagement rates this quarter:

  • Instagram: up to 1.73%
  • Facebook: up to 0.17%

Across the quarter’s three months, Instagram’s median ranged from 1.49% to 1.73% and Facebook’s from 0.12% to 0.17%. Instagram’s rate has roughly doubled from 0.81% in July 2025, peaking at 2.39% in January 2026. Facebook’s has drifted down from a high of 0.40% in August 2025 and stayed below 0.2% since April 2026.

From this quarter, Emplifi calculates engagement rate from impressions instead of reach, because Facebook no longer provides reach data. These rates are therefore not comparable with the engagement rates in earlier quarterly reports.

Best-performing post types

Facebook: Live Video drew a median of 332 interactions, more than 40 times any other format. It is rare, at 0.5% of baby food brands’ Facebook posts in September, and the result may reflect a few brands’ live sessions rather than a pattern. Links came second; photos and Reels, the two most-posted formats, earned just two interactions each.

Instagram: Carousels led, about 40% ahead of Reels. Single images came last.

Full organic post type performance (Q3 2026):

Post type Platform Median post interactions
Live Video Facebook 332
Link Facebook 8
Status Facebook 3.5
Photo Facebook 2
Reel Facebook 2
Carousel Instagram 24

Post type distribution trends:

Reels now make up 42.2% of baby food brands’ Facebook posts, up from 25.3% in July 2025, while photos fell from 60.2% to 52.7%. On Instagram, Reels rose from 44.0% to 50.9% of posts and single images fell from 31.1% to 23.7%. Carousels, the best performer, held at about a quarter.

Paid performance: Facebook and Instagram ads

This quarter’s data has no baby food-specific ad benchmark, so the paid figures below come from Emplifi’s Worldwide ad accounts benchmark, which spans ad accounts in every industry.

Where brands are spending

Facebook feed takes about a third of the average ad budget, more than double Instagram feed in second. Facebook Reels and Instagram Reels sit almost level after that, with Instagram Stories fifth.

CPC and CPM by placement

The most cost-efficient placements this quarter:

  • Lowest CPC: Facebook feed, Facebook Reels and Instagram Stories
  • Lowest CPM: Facebook feed, Facebook Reels and Instagram Reels

Facebook feed offers both the cheapest clicks and the cheapest reach. Instagram Reels is an odd mix: its CPM is close to Facebook Reels, but each click costs more than any other placement in the top five.

Spend, CPC and CPM by placement (Q3 2026):

Placement Share of spend (%) CPC (USD) CPM (USD)
Facebook feed 34.18 0.27 3.94
Instagram feed 15.12 0.98 5.18
Facebook Reels 13.98 0.44 4.17
Instagram Reels 13.77 1.15 4.22
Instagram Stories 8.68 0.91 5.14

Click-through rate by placement

Facebook feed’s click-through rate is about four times that of the best Instagram placement, Instagram Stories.

CTR by placement (Q3 2026):

Placement CTR (%)
Facebook feed 1.67
Facebook Reels 1.04
Instagram Stories 0.44
Instagram feed 0.40
Instagram Reels 0.30

Cost trends over time

Q3 2026 ad cost benchmarks, shown for September 2026 with the quarter’s monthly range:

Metric Brands benchmark Worldwide overall
CPM (USD) 2.09 (1.83 to 2.09) 2.25 (1.90 to 2.25)
CTR (%) 1.13 (1.06 to 1.13) 1.28 (1.13 to 1.28)

Worldwide CPM peaked at $2.32 in November 2025, fell to $1.68 in January 2026 and recovered through spring. It dipped to $1.90 in July 2026, then rose to its highest point since November. CTR climbed from 0.95% in July 2025 to its 15-month high in September 2026, and the brands benchmark moved the same way at slightly lower levels. No monthly CPC series is available.

How to use these benchmarks

Use these medians as a reference point for baby food brands, not a ceiling. Pull the same measures for your own profiles and compare them with the September 2026 figures above:

  • Median post interactions
  • Median post impressions
  • Median engagement rate
  • Post type mix

On Instagram, carousels are the best performer but only a quarter of posts, so they are the easiest place to add volume. On Facebook, where photos and Reels earn almost nothing, test links and live sessions before adding more of either.

Methodology

This report is produced quarterly from Emplifi’s proprietary social media dataset, drawn from the platform used by more than 22,000 brands worldwide.

Data collection: Data is pulled once per quarter and reflects the state of Emplifi’s database at the start of the quarter following the period analyzed. It is not updated between releases.

Sample: 357 Facebook brand pages and 153 Instagram brand profiles in the worldwide baby food category, July 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2026.

Reporting period: Monthly metrics are reported for September 2026, the final month of the quarter, and trend commentary covers July 2025 through September 2026. The ads trend series also covers July 2025 through September 2026.

Minimum thresholds: Reports require a minimum of 50 Instagram profiles and 50 Facebook pages for a given region and industry combination. Interaction distribution data requires a minimum of 300 profiles. Ad benchmarks require a minimum of 200 active ad accounts from the region or industry.

Key definitions

  • Interactions (Facebook): Sum of all reactions (Like, Love, Haha, Wow, Sorry, Anger), comments and shares on brand-published posts. Care reactions are counted under Likes.
  • Interactions (Instagram): Sum of likes, comments, saves, shares and reposts on brand-published posts. Saves, shares and reposts are counted from Q3 2026.
  • Median post interactions: The middle-ranked page or profile when sorted by monthly post interactions. It represents typical performance rather than an average, so outliers don’t skew the figure.
  • Relative median interactions: Median interactions indexed to the maximum value in the reporting period for each platform, expressed as a percentage. Useful for comparing direction across platforms at different absolute scales.
  • Impressions: The number of times a post was displayed, whether or not anyone interacted with it. Reflects visibility rather than engagement.
  • Engagement rate: Interactions divided by impressions, expressed as a percentage. From Q3 2026 the rate is based on impressions instead of reach, because Facebook no longer provides reach data, so it is not comparable with earlier quarters.
  • Organic: Posts not paid to be promoted, detected using Emplifi’s internal algorithm with near-100% accuracy.
  • CPC / CPM: Median cost per click and cost per thousand impressions across all available ad accounts, shown for the top five placements by relative spend.
  • Relative spend: Normalized distribution (%) showing the average share of an account’s budget allocated to each placement.
  • CTR: Median click-through rate for the top five placements by relative spend.

All costs are in USD. All figures are medians unless otherwise noted; UGC uplifts are averages. Data is first normalized at the profile or page level before aggregation.
