Bank social media benchmarks for Q3 2026 show Instagram holding steady while Facebook slips: the median bank’s Instagram post earned 33 interactions in September, close to its 15-month high, against 14 on Facebook, its lowest. Median engagement reached up to 1.38% on Instagram and up to 0.62% on Facebook across the quarter. Carousels and Reels finished almost level on Instagram, and Live Video led on Facebook.
This quarterly benchmarks report draws on Emplifi’s dataset of 2,161 Facebook pages and 1,038 Instagram profiles in the worldwide bank category, covering July 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2026.
Brands using Emplifi’s UGC solution saw these average uplifts in Q3 2026:
The figures come from Emplifi’s Worldwide Brands UGC benchmark, averaged across 68 to 83 accounts per metric. That benchmark covers brands in every category, so it is not specific to banks.
Ecommerce brands collect the largest share of Facebook interactions of any category broken out in the data, with finance, the category banks belong to, in second place. Finance posts more than any category except retail, though: 11.2% of Facebook brand posts for 7.8% of interactions. On Instagram it is a smaller player, with 2.0% of posts and 1.5% of interactions.
Facebook interaction distribution (Q3 2026):
| Category | Share of total interactions |
|---|---|
| Ecommerce | 31.3% |
| Finance | 7.8% |
| Services | 4.8% |
| Auto | 4.1% |
| Retail | 3.5% |
| Others | 48.6% |
Instagram interaction distribution (Q3 2026):

| Beauty | 13.5% |
| Ecommerce | 8.3% |
| Sporting goods | 7.4% |
| Auto | 5.1% |
| Others | 25.1% |
The table shows the five categories with the largest interaction share among the region’s six highest-posting categories. Others combines every remaining category.
Banks have the bigger audience on Facebook, where the median page has about 65% more fans than the median Instagram profile. Both channels get about the same number of posts. Instagram still collects more than twice the interactions over the quarter.

Instagram is one of the steadiest lines in the data, between 29 and 34 for all 15 months. Facebook held at 17 to 20 until May 2026, then eased to 14 in September, the lowest point of the period.
Measured against its own 15-month high, Instagram finished September at 97% of its October 2025 peak. Facebook ended at 70% of its December 2025 and January 2026 high, its lowest reading.
Impressions count how often posts were displayed, whether or not anyone interacted. They measure visibility, not engagement.
| Platform | Q3 2026 median post impressions |
|---|---|
| 2,439 | |
| 2,164 |
The two platforms ended the quarter close together, with Instagram slightly ahead. Instagram impressions peaked at 4,640 in October 2025, roughly halved by March 2026 and have moved between about 2,200 and 2,900 since. Facebook peaked at 3,760 in December 2025 and has trended down since. The decline is not specific to banks: median impressions for brands worldwide fell from about 1,500 to 779 on Facebook and from about 3,900 to about 2,050 on Instagram between July 2025 and September 2026.
Median post engagement rates this quarter:
Instagram’s median ranged from 1.20% to 1.38% across the quarter, and Facebook’s from 0.56% to 0.62%. Instagram’s rate hovered around 1% until November 2025, then rose to a high of 1.46% in May 2026. Facebook stayed in a narrow 0.54% to 0.64% band for all 15 months.
From this quarter, Emplifi calculates engagement rate from impressions instead of reach, because Facebook no longer provides reach data. These rates are therefore not comparable with the engagement rates in earlier quarterly reports.
Facebook: Live Video earned about twice the median interactions of links and status updates, which tied for second. It is rare, at 0.3% of banks’ Facebook posts in September. Photos, two thirds of all posts, came last.
Instagram: Carousels and Reels finished one interaction apart, and both earned about 60% more than single images.
Full organic post type performance (Q3 2026):

On Facebook, photos slipped from 71.3% to 67.7% of posts while Reels rose from 18.3% to 26.8%, most of it in a step from 17.6% to 23.5% between September and October 2025.

Banks have their own ad benchmark this quarter, so the figures below come from bank ad accounts only. The cost trends table sets them beside the brands benchmark and the Worldwide overall figure.
Facebook feed takes about a third of bank ad budgets, 17.58 percentage points ahead of Facebook Reels. Instagram feed and Instagram Reels follow, and Audience Network classic, which places ads in partner apps, rounds out the top five.
The most cost-efficient placements this quarter:
Audience Network classic is the cheapest placement on both CPC and CPM, at a fraction of the others’ cost. Among Facebook and Instagram placements, Facebook feed has the cheapest clicks, about a third of Instagram feed’s CPC.
Spend, CPC and CPM by placement (Q3 2026):
| Placement | Share of spend (%) | CPC (USD) | CPM (USD) |

|---|---|---|---|
| CPM (USD) | 1.48 (1.24 to 1.48) | 2.09 (1.83 to 2.09) | 2.25 (1.90 to 2.25) |
| CTR (%) | 1.42 (1.39 to 1.42) | 1.13 (1.06 to 1.13) | 1.28 (1.13 to 1.28) |
Bank CPM rose by about 60% over the 15 months, from $0.93 in July 2025 to its highest level in September 2026, with most of the climb since spring 2026. It remains well below the Worldwide overall figure. Bank CTR climbed from 0.87% in July 2025 to its own high in August and September 2026 and has run above the Worldwide rate since January. No monthly CPC series is available.
Use these medians as a reference point for banks, not a ceiling. Pull the same measures for your own profiles and compare them with the September 2026 figures above:
On Instagram, carousels and Reels perform alike, so shifting single-image posts to either is the clearest gain. On Facebook, photos are two thirds of the mix and the weakest format; links, status updates and occasional Live Video are worth testing. For paid, compare your CPM with the bank benchmark rather than the Worldwide figure, since bank costs run much lower.
