Beer social media benchmarks for Q3 2026 show Instagram engagement at a 15-month high while Facebook loses reach: the median beer brand’s Instagram post earned 53 interactions in September, against 13.5 on Facebook, Facebook’s lowest of the period. Median engagement reached up to 2.42% on Instagram and up to 0.76% on Facebook across the quarter. Carousels led Instagram by a wide margin, and links led on Facebook.
This quarterly benchmarks report draws on Emplifi’s dataset of 1,589 Facebook pages and 1,077 Instagram profiles in the worldwide beer category, covering July 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2026.
Brands using Emplifi’s UGC solution saw these average uplifts in Q3 2026:
The figures come from Emplifi’s Worldwide Brands UGC benchmark, averaged across 68 to 83 accounts per metric. That benchmark covers brands in every category, so it is not specific to beer.
Ecommerce brands collect the largest share of Facebook interactions of any category broken out in the data, and fashion leads Instagram with more than 40%. The data counts beer within alcohol, and alcohol is one of Instagram’s stronger performers: it publishes 3.0% of brand posts there and collects 6.3% of interactions, enough for fifth place in the table. On Facebook alcohol takes 3.1% of posts and 3.3% of interactions.
Facebook interaction distribution (Q3 2026):
| Category | Share of total interactions |
|---|---|
| Ecommerce | 31.3% |
| Finance | 7.8% |
| Services | 4.8% |
| Auto | 4.1% |
| Retail | 3.5% |
| Others | 48.6% |
Instagram interaction distribution (Q3 2026):
| Category | Share of total interactions |
|---|---|
| Fashion | 40.4% |
| Beauty | 13.5% |
| Ecommerce | 8.3% |
| Sporting goods | 7.4% |
| Alcohol | 6.3% |
| Others | 23.9% |
The table ranks the region’s six highest-posting categories, plus alcohol as beer’s own category, by share of interactions. Others combines every remaining category.
Beer brands have more fans on Facebook, about 35% more than on Instagram, and post at a similar rate on both. Instagram still earns more than three times the interactions over the quarter.

Instagram has held between 47 and 58 for all 15 months, with its high in April 2026. Facebook has drifted down from 21 in July 2025 to 13.5 in September 2026, the lowest point of the period.
Against its own 15-month high, Instagram finished September at 91% of its April 2026 peak. Facebook ended at 64% of its July 2025 level, its lowest reading.
Impressions count how often posts were displayed, whether or not anyone interacted. They measure visibility, not engagement.
| Platform | Q3 2026 median post impressions |

| 1,232 |
Instagram posts were displayed almost three times as often as Facebook posts in September. Instagram impressions more than halved from their September 2025 peak of 7,065, then settled between about 3,150 and 3,850 from February 2026. Facebook has fallen through most of the period, from 3,879 in September 2025, with the steepest drop in Q3. The fall is broad: median impressions for brands worldwide dropped from about 1,500 to 779 on Facebook and from about 3,900 to about 2,050 on Instagram between July 2025 and September 2026.
Median post engagement rates this quarter:
Instagram’s median ranged from 1.95% to 2.42% across the quarter, and Facebook’s from 0.62% to 0.76%. Instagram’s rate rose from a low of 1.30% in September 2025, with the biggest gains between November 2025 and February 2026. Facebook’s August figure was its highest of the 15 months; otherwise it stayed between 0.55% and 0.70%.
From this quarter, Emplifi calculates engagement rate from impressions instead of reach, because Facebook no longer provides reach data. These rates are therefore not comparable with the engagement rates in earlier quarterly reports.
Facebook: Links led, at about 40% more than photos, but they made up just 1.0% of beer brands’ Facebook posts in September. Reels and status updates tied behind photos, and Live Video came last.
Instagram: Carousels were well ahead, about 40% above Reels and almost 60% above single images, yet they are the least-used of the three.
Full organic post type performance (Q3 2026):
| Post type | Platform | Median post interactions |
|---|---|---|
| Link | 17 | |
| Photo | 12 | |
| Reel | 10 | |
| Status | 10 | |
| Live Video | 8.5 | |
| Carousel | 66.5 | |
| Reel | 47 | |

Post type distribution trends:
Photos make up 62.7% of beer brands’ Facebook posts, down from 69.1% in July 2025, and Reels rose from 20.9% to 33.1%, most of it between September and October 2025. Instagram habits have barely moved: Reels held at 37.7% of posts, single images slipped from 40.4% to 37.8%, and carousels edged up from 21.8% to 24.5%.

This quarter’s data has no beer-specific ad benchmark, so the paid figures below come from Emplifi’s Worldwide ad accounts benchmark, which spans ad accounts in every industry.
Facebook feed takes about a third of the average ad budget, more than double the share of Instagram feed. Facebook Reels and Instagram Reels are almost tied in third and fourth, and Instagram Stories is fifth.
The most cost-efficient placements this quarter:
Facebook feed is the most efficient placement on both counts. Instagram Reels delivers cheap reach but costs the most per click, more than four times Facebook feed.

On Instagram, carousels are the best-performing and least-used format, which makes them the clearest opportunity. On Facebook, where reach is falling, test link posts against the default photo, and expect Reels alone not to close the gap.
This report is produced quarterly from Emplifi’s proprietary social media dataset, drawn from the platform used by more than 22,000 brands worldwide.
Data collection: Data is pulled once per quarter and reflects the state of Emplifi’s database at the start of the quarter following the period analyzed. It is not updated between releases.
Sample: 1,589 Facebook brand pages and 1,077 Instagram brand profiles in the worldwide beer category, July 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2026.
Reporting period: Monthly metrics are reported for September 2026, the final month of the quarter, and trend commentary covers July 2025 through September 2026. The ads trend series also covers July 2025 through September 2026.
Minimum thresholds: Reports require a minimum of 50 Instagram profiles and 50 Facebook pages for a given region and industry combination. Interaction distribution data requires a minimum of 300 profiles. Ad benchmarks require a minimum of 200 active ad accounts from the region or industry.
All costs are in USD. All figures are medians unless otherwise noted; UGC uplifts are averages. Data is first normalized at the profile or page level before aggregation.
Anything consistently above 2.42% put a beer brand ahead of the worldwide median in Q3 2026. The monthly median ranged from 1.95% to 2.42% across the quarter, against 0.62% to 0.76% on Facebook. A free social media assessment shows where your own profiles sit.
Yes, better than any other format. Carousels earned a median of 66.5 interactions per post in Q3 2026, against 47 for Reels and 42 for single images, yet they made up only 24.5% of beer brands’ Instagram posts in September 2026.
Median Facebook impressions for beer brands fell from 3,879 in September 2025 to 1,232 in September 2026. Impressions fell for brands worldwide over the same period, so the decline is not specific to beer, but it has cut beer’s median Facebook interactions to 13.5.
All three of the quarter’s top beer posts on Instagram were football content: a Mexico vs Ecuador award moment from Michelob Ultra Mexico, Michelob Ultra’s thank-you to Lionel Messi and Cerveza Aguila’s support for Colombia’s World Cup team.
The median beer brand had 38,633 Facebook fans and 28,448 Instagram followers in Q3 2026. The Instagram profile collected 2,434 interactions over the quarter, against 725 for the Facebook page.
