Education social media benchmarks for Q3 2026 show Instagram well ahead of Facebook: the median education account’s Instagram post earned 89 interactions in September, against six on Facebook. Median engagement reached up to 1.81% on Instagram, its highest level in 15 months, and up to 0.64% on Facebook. Carousels were the top Instagram format, and Live Video led on Facebook.
This quarterly benchmarks report draws on Emplifi’s dataset of 16,903 Facebook pages and 4,421 Instagram profiles in the worldwide education category, covering July 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2026.
Brands using Emplifi’s UGC solution saw these average uplifts in Q3 2026:
The figures come from Emplifi’s Worldwide Brands UGC benchmark, averaged across 68 to 83 accounts per metric. That benchmark covers brands in every category, so it is not specific to education.
Education accounts have similar audiences on both platforms and post at a similar pace, but Instagram collects almost 15 times the interactions over the quarter.
| Metric | ||
|---|---|---|
| Median followers / fans | 22,065 | 17,575 |
| Median posts published (quarter) | 41 | 36 |
| Median total interactions (quarter) | 4,870 | 330 |
The median follows the middle-ranked page or profile each month, so a few very large accounts can’t lift it.

Instagram had a strong end to the period. After dipping to 69 in March 2026, it climbed to 95 in August 2026, the 15-month high, and finished September at 89. Facebook has been flat at six interactions per post since September 2025, one below its July and August 2025 level.
Instagram ended September 2026 at 94% of its August 2026 peak. Facebook was at 86% of its 2025 level and has stayed there for 13 months, so neither platform shows a meaningful decline in interactions.
Impressions count how often posts were displayed, whether or not anyone interacted. They measure visibility, not engagement.
| Platform | Q3 2026 median post impressions |
|---|---|
| 3,256 | |
| 601 |
Instagram impressions fell from a peak of 5,400 in August 2025 to 2,497 in March 2026, then rebounded to 3,712 in August 2026 before settling at 3,256. Facebook impressions are low and steady, between about 670 and 870 a post from July 2025 to August 2026, then dipped to 601 in September. That dip matches a broader trend: median Facebook impressions for brands worldwide fell from about 1,500 in July 2025 to 779 in September 2026.
Median post engagement rates this quarter:
Instagram’s monthly median ranged from 1.47% to 1.81% across the quarter and Facebook’s from 0.54% to 0.64%. Instagram’s rate has climbed steadily, from 1.06% in July 2025 to its September 2026 high. Facebook stayed between 0.54% and 0.65% for all 15 months.
From this quarter, Emplifi calculates engagement rate from impressions instead of reach, because Facebook no longer provides reach data. These rates are therefore not comparable with the engagement rates in earlier quarterly reports.
Facebook: Live Video earned a median of 19.5 interactions, about four times any other format, though only 0.5% of education posts on Facebook were live. Status updates and Reels earned five, links and photos four.
Instagram: Carousels led with a median of 111 interactions per post, ahead of Reels at 90 and well ahead of single images at 45.
