What’s in this report

Australia and New Zealand electronics social media benchmarks for Q3 2026 show a steady Instagram and a quieter Facebook: the median electronics brand’s Instagram post earned 20 interactions in September, against four on Facebook. Carousels led Instagram with a median of 29 interactions per post, and a Samsung New Zealand campaign starring a local man named Tim Cook produced four of the six top posts.

This quarterly benchmarks report draws on Emplifi’s dataset of 153 Facebook pages and 91 Instagram profiles in the electronics category in Australia and New Zealand, covering July 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2026.

User-generated content: what’s achievable

Brands using Emplifi’s UGC solution saw these average uplifts in Q3 2026:

  • 11.49x conversion rate
  • 4.84x repeat website visits
  • 1.03x average order value

These are averages from Emplifi’s Worldwide Brands UGC benchmark, across 68 to 83 accounts per metric. The benchmark pools brands from every category and region, so the uplifts are not specific to electronics brands in Australia and New Zealand.

Organic performance: Facebook and Instagram

Interaction share by industry

On Instagram, beauty (22.0%) and home and living (19.7%) lead. Electronics is one of the six busiest Instagram categories, with 7.6% of brand posts, but it draws 3.8% of interactions. Emplifi’s data team is reviewing this quarter’s Facebook interaction share for Australia and New Zealand, so this section shows Instagram only.

Instagram interaction distribution (Q3 2026):

Category Share of total interactions
Beauty 22.0%
Home & living 19.7%
Sporting goods 11.8%
Fashion 10.0%
Retail 5.9%
Others 30.6%

The table lists the categories with the most brand posts in the region, ranked by their share of interactions. Others combines every remaining category.

Platform landscape at a glance

Audiences are similar in size: the median Facebook page has about 17% more fans than the median Instagram profile has followers. Instagram profiles post more, 38 times a quarter against 31, and collect about 10 times the interactions.

Metric Instagram Facebook
Median followers / fans 20,356 23,868
Median posts published (quarter) 38 31
Median total interactions (quarter) 1,724 168

Median post interactions

This is the monthly median, so it reflects the typical electronics brand rather than a few big accounts.

Platform Q3 2026 median post interactions
Instagram 20
Facebook 4

Instagram has barely moved, staying between 19 and 22.5 for 15 months. Facebook peaked at six in December 2025, fell to three in July and August 2026 and recovered to four in September.

Relative median post interactions

Instagram finished September 2026 at 89% of its December 2025 high. Facebook ended at 67% of its peak, after two months at 50%.

Median post impressions

Impressions show how often posts were displayed, whether or not anyone engaged. Emplifi’s dataset has too few Australia and New Zealand electronics profiles with impression data this quarter, so the impressions below are the Worldwide electronics medians.

Platform Q3 2026 median post impressions
Instagram 1,826
Facebook 1,166

On that worldwide series, Facebook impressions fell from a peak of 2,291 in October 2025 to 1,166 in September 2026, the lowest month of the period. Instagram impressions dropped from 3,484 in October 2025 to a low of 1,684 in April 2026 and ran at about 1,800 to 2,200 in Q3.

Engagement rate trends

Median post engagement rates this quarter (Worldwide electronics medians):

  • Instagram: up to 1.75%
  • Facebook: up to 0.63%

These rates are also the Worldwide electronics medians, so they should not be read as one sample with the Australia and New Zealand interaction figures. Across Q3, Instagram’s median ranged from 1.54% to 1.75% and Facebook’s from 0.60% to 0.63%. Both reached their 15-month highs in September 2026, up from lows in November 2025 of 0.94% on Instagram and 0.52% on Facebook.

From this quarter, Emplifi calculates engagement rate from impressions instead of reach, because Facebook no longer provides reach data. These rates are therefore not comparable with the engagement rates in earlier quarterly reports.

Best-performing post types

Facebook: Live Video drew a median of 15.5 interactions, almost four times any other format, but it was rare: 0.1% of electronics brands’ Facebook posts in July and none in September. Links earned four, and photos, Reels and status updates three each.

Instagram: Carousels led clearly, Reels came second and single images third.

Full organic post type performance (Q3 2026):

Live Video Facebook 15.5
Link Facebook 4
Photo Facebook 3
Reel Facebook 3
Status Facebook 3
Carousel Instagram 29
Reel Instagram 20.5
Image Instagram 13.5

Post type distribution trends:

Reels rose from 19.5% of electronics brands’ Facebook posts in July 2025 to 36.5% in September 2026, with the biggest jump between September and October 2025, while photos fell from 51.9% to 42.6%. On Instagram, carousels reached their highest share of the period, 24.1%, Reels grew from 37.4% to 42.0%, and single images fell from 26.3% to 17.7%, their lowest share.

Cost trends over time

Q3 2026 ad cost benchmarks, shown for September 2026 with the quarter’s monthly range:

Metric Electronics ad benchmark Australia and New Zealand overall
CPM (USD) 1.94 (1.68 to 1.94) 4.22 (3.96 to 4.22)
CTR (%) 1.28 (1.07 to 1.28) 1.14 (1.14 to 1.25)

Australia and New Zealand overall costs more than twice the electronics benchmark per thousand impressions: $4.22 in September against $1.94. The region’s CPM peaked at $4.57 in June 2026, and its CTR, 1.14% in September, was below its December 2025 high of 1.30%. The electronics benchmark’s CTR reached 1.28%, its highest in 15 months. No monthly CPC series is available.

How to use these benchmarks

Use these medians as a reference point for electronics brands in Australia and New Zealand. Compare your own September 2026 figures for:

  • Median post interactions
  • Median post impressions
  • Median engagement rate
  • Post type mix

On Instagram, carousels are the format to beat, and brands are already moving away from single images. On Facebook, most formats earn three or four interactions, so the occasional Live Video stands out.

Methodology

This report is produced quarterly from Emplifi’s proprietary social media dataset, drawn from the platform used by more than 22,000 brands worldwide.

Data collection: Data is pulled once per quarter and reflects the state of Emplifi’s database at the start of the quarter following the period analyzed. It is not updated between releases.

Sample: 153 Facebook brand pages and 91 Instagram brand profiles in the electronics category in Australia and New Zealand, July 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2026.

Reporting period: Monthly metrics are reported for September 2026, the final month of the quarter, and trend commentary covers July 2025 through September 2026. The ads trend series also covers July 2025 through September 2026.

Minimum thresholds: Reports require a minimum of 50 Instagram profiles and 50 Facebook pages for a given region and industry combination. Interaction distribution data requires a minimum of 300 profiles. Ad benchmarks require a minimum of 200 active ad accounts from the region or industry.

Key definitions

  • Interactions (Facebook): Sum of all reactions (Like, Love, Haha, Wow, Sorry, Anger), comments and shares on brand-published posts. Care reactions are counted under Likes.
  • Interactions (Instagram): Sum of likes, comments, saves, shares and reposts on brand-published posts. Saves, shares and reposts are counted from Q3 2026.
  • Median post interactions: The middle-ranked page or profile when sorted by monthly post interactions. It represents typical performance rather than an average, so outliers don’t skew the figure.
  • Relative median interactions: Median interactions indexed to the maximum value in the reporting period for each platform, expressed as a percentage. Useful for comparing direction across platforms at different absolute scales.
  • Impressions: The number of times a post was displayed, whether or not anyone interacted with it. Reflects visibility rather than engagement.
  • Engagement rate: Interactions divided by impressions, expressed as a percentage. From Q3 2026 the rate is based on impressions instead of reach, because Facebook no longer provides reach data, so it is not comparable with earlier quarters.
  • Organic: Posts not paid to be promoted, detected using Emplifi’s internal algorithm with near-100% accuracy.
  • CPC / CPM: Median cost per click and cost per thousand impressions across all available ad accounts, shown for the top five placements by relative spend.
  • Relative spend: Normalized distribution (%) showing the average share of an account’s budget allocated to each placement.
  • CTR: Median click-through rate for the top five placements by relative spend.

All costs are in USD. All figures are medians unless otherwise noted; UGC uplifts are averages. Data is first normalized at the profile or page level before aggregation.

Emplifi’s dataset has too few Australia and New Zealand electronics profiles with impression data this quarter, so the engagement rate and impressions sections use the Worldwide electronics medians. On that series, Instagram engagement reached up to 1.75% in Q3 2026. A free social media assessment measures your own rate.

The electronics benchmark is cheaper and earns more clicks: a September 2026 CPM of $1.94 and CTR of 1.28%, against $4.22 and 1.14% for Australia and New Zealand overall. The electronics benchmark pools electronics ad accounts from all regions.
