What’s in this report

Fashion social media benchmarks for Q3 2026 show Instagram firmly in charge: the median fashion brand’s Instagram post earned 49 interactions in September, matching its 15-month high, against six on Facebook. Median engagement reached up to 1.42% on Instagram and up to 0.59% on Facebook across the quarter, both the highest rates in the period. Carousels led on Instagram, and fashion brands take more than 40% of all brand interactions there.

This quarterly benchmarks report draws on Emplifi’s dataset of 10,560 Facebook pages and 8,110 Instagram profiles in the worldwide fashion category, covering July 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2026.

User-generated content: what’s achievable

Brands using Emplifi’s UGC solution saw these average uplifts in Q3 2026:

  • 11.49x conversion rate
  • 4.84x repeat website visits
  • 1.03x average order value

The figures come from Emplifi’s Worldwide Brands UGC benchmark, averaged across 68 to 83 accounts per metric. That benchmark covers brands in every category, so it is not specific to fashion.

Organic performance: Facebook and Instagram

Interaction share by industry

Fashion owns Instagram. It publishes 27.8% of brand posts in the region and collects 40.4% of interactions, more than the next four categories combined. Facebook is a different picture: fashion publishes 6.4% of brand posts there but draws 3.3% of interactions, too few to make the top five, where ecommerce leads with 31.3%.

Facebook interaction distribution (Q3 2026):

Category Share of total interactions
Ecommerce 31.3%
Finance 7.8%
Services 4.8%
Auto 4.1%
Retail 3.5%
Others 48.6%

Instagram interaction distribution (Q3 2026):

Category Share of total interactions
Fashion 40.4%
Beauty 13.5%
Ecommerce 8.3%
Sporting goods 7.4%
Auto 5.1%
Others 25.1%

The categories listed are the region’s six highest-posting ones, ranked by share of interactions. Others combines every remaining category, including fashion on Facebook.

Platform landscape at a glance

The median fashion brand has twice as many followers on Instagram as fans on Facebook, posts more often there, and collects almost 13 times the interactions over the quarter.

Metric Instagram Facebook
Median followers / fans 139,461 70,369
Median posts published (quarter) 45 36
Median total interactions (quarter) 3,918 310

Median post interactions

The median follows the middle-ranked page or profile each month, so global luxury houses with millions of followers don’t set it.

Platform Q3 2026 median post interactions
Instagram 49
Facebook 6

Instagram dipped to 43.5 in November 2025 and has climbed back since, returning to 49 in August and September 2026. Facebook lost a third of its level over the period, from nine interactions per post in mid-2025 to six in August and September 2026.

Relative median post interactions

Instagram ended September 2026 at 100% of its peak, a level it also reached in August and September 2025. Facebook finished at 67% of its 2025 high, the low point of the period.

Median post impressions

Impressions count how often posts were displayed, whether or not anyone interacted. They measure visibility, not engagement.

Platform Q3 2026 median post impressions
Instagram 11,995
Facebook 2,526

Fashion impressions fell hard on both platforms. On Instagram, the median post was seen 31,067 times in August 2025 and 11,995 times in September 2026, with most of the drop between November 2025 and February 2026. Facebook held between about 4,400 and 5,900 until July 2026, then fell to 2,526 by September. Median impressions for brands worldwide declined over the same period too, on Facebook from about 1,500 to 779, so the trend is not specific to fashion.

Engagement rate trends

Median post engagement rates this quarter:

  • Instagram: up to 1.42%
  • Facebook: up to 0.59%

Instagram’s monthly median ranged from 1.07% to 1.42% across the quarter, and Facebook’s from 0.47% to 0.59%. Instagram’s rate has almost tripled from a low of 0.51% in August 2025, with the biggest gains in December 2025 and January 2026. Facebook rose more gently from 0.42% in July 2025.

From this quarter, Emplifi calculates engagement rate from impressions instead of reach, because Facebook no longer provides reach data. These rates are therefore not comparable with the engagement rates in earlier quarterly reports.

Best-performing post types

Facebook: Live Video earned a median of 64.5 interactions, about nine times any other format, but made up only 0.4% of fashion brands’ Facebook posts in September. Links (seven), Reels (six), photos (five) and status updates (four) were close together.

Instagram: Carousels led with a median of 59 interactions, Reels followed at 48, and single images earned about half as much as carousels, at 29.

Full organic post type performance (Q3 2026):

Post type Platform Median post interactions
Live Video Facebook 64.5

Reels grew slightly to 34.2%, and single images fell from 28.4% to 23.0%. On Facebook, Reels almost tripled their share, from 11.2% to 32.2%, with the largest step between September and October 2025, while photos fell from 76.7% to 63.0%.

Paid performance: Facebook and Instagram ads

The placement figures below come from Emplifi’s fashion ad accounts benchmark, which pools fashion ad accounts across all regions. The cost trends table compares it with the Worldwide overall benchmark.

Where brands are spending

Fashion advertisers lean on Instagram more than the Worldwide benchmark does. Facebook feed still leads with 30.99% of spend, but Instagram feed is only 7.33 percentage points behind at 23.66%, and Instagram Stories takes 17.85%. Facebook Reels gets the smallest share of the five.

CPC and CPM by placement

The most cost-efficient placements this quarter:

  • Lowest CPC: Facebook feed, Facebook Reels and Instagram Stories
  • Lowest CPM: Facebook Reels, Instagram Reels and Facebook feed

Fashion clicks are cheap everywhere, between $0.23 and $0.51 across the top five placements. Reach costs more on Instagram feed ($6.27 CPM) and Stories ($5.92) than on the Reels placements, which are the cheapest.

Spend, CPC and CPM by placement (Q3 2026):

Placement Share of spend (%) CPC (USD) CPM (USD)
Facebook feed 30.99 0.23 4.53
Instagram feed 23.66 0.51 6.27
Instagram Stories 17.85 0.42 5.92
Instagram Reels 11.35 0.45 4.12
Facebook Reels 8.53 0.27 3.97

Click-through rate by placement

Every top placement clears 1% CTR for fashion. Facebook feed leads at 2.16%, with Instagram Stories second at 1.82%.

CTR by placement (Q3 2026):

Placement CTR (%)
Facebook feed 2.16
Instagram Stories 1.82
Instagram feed 1.58
Facebook Reels 1.47
Instagram Reels 1.11

Cost trends over time

Q3 2026 ad cost benchmarks, shown for September 2026 with the quarter’s monthly range:

Metric Fashion benchmark Worldwide overall
CPM (USD) 2.69 (2.14 to 2.69) 2.25 (1.90 to 2.25)
CTR (%) 1.40 (1.40 to 1.62) 1.28 (1.13 to 1.28)

Fashion CPM peaked at $3.06 in November 2025, fell to a low of $2.07 in March 2026 and ended September 2026 at $2.69, above the Worldwide overall figure of $2.25. Fashion CTR has stayed above the Worldwide rate throughout, peaking at 1.90% in January 2026 and finishing September at 1.40%, against 1.28% for Worldwide overall. No monthly CPC series is available.

How to use these benchmarks

Treat these medians as a calibration point for fashion brands. Compare your own September 2026 figures with:

  • Median post interactions
  • Median post impressions
  • Median engagement rate
  • Post type mix

On Instagram, carousels are both the most-used and the best-performing format, so they should anchor the feed, with Reels close behind. On Facebook, interactions per post are low across everyday formats; Live Video is the exception for launches, drops and shows.

Methodology

This report is produced quarterly from Emplifi’s proprietary social media dataset, drawn from the platform used by more than 22,000 brands worldwide.

Data collection: Data is pulled once per quarter and reflects the state of Emplifi’s database at the start of the quarter following the period analyzed. It is not updated between releases.

Sample: 10,560 Facebook brand pages and 8,110 Instagram brand profiles in the worldwide fashion category, July 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2026.

Reporting period: Monthly metrics are reported for September 2026, the final month of the quarter, and trend commentary covers July 2025 through September 2026. The ads trend series also covers July 2025 through September 2026.

Minimum thresholds: Reports require a minimum of 50 Instagram profiles and 50 Facebook pages for a given region and industry combination. Interaction distribution data requires a minimum of 300 profiles. Ad benchmarks require a minimum of 200 active ad accounts from the region or industry.

Key definitions

  • Interactions (Facebook): Sum of all reactions (Like, Love, Haha, Wow, Sorry, Anger), comments and shares on brand-published posts. Care reactions are counted under Likes.
  • Interactions (Instagram): Sum of likes, comments, saves, shares and reposts on brand-published posts. Saves, shares and reposts are counted from Q3 2026.
  • Median post interactions: The middle-ranked page or profile when sorted by monthly post interactions. It represents typical performance rather than an average, so outliers don’t skew the figure.
  • Relative median interactions: Median interactions indexed to the maximum value in the reporting period for each platform, expressed as a percentage. Useful for comparing direction across platforms at different absolute scales.
  • Impressions: The number of times a post was displayed, whether or not anyone interacted with it. Reflects visibility rather than engagement.
  • Engagement rate: Interactions divided by impressions, expressed as a percentage. From Q3 2026 the rate is based on impressions instead of reach, because Facebook no longer provides reach data, so it is not comparable with earlier quarters.
  • Organic: Posts not paid to be promoted, detected using Emplifi’s internal algorithm with near-100% accuracy.
  • CPC / CPM: Median cost per click and cost per thousand impressions across all available ad accounts, shown for the top five placements by relative spend.
  • Relative spend: Normalized distribution (%) showing the average share of an account’s budget allocated to each placement.
  • CTR: Median click-through rate for the top five placements by relative spend.

All costs are in USD. All figures are medians unless otherwise noted; UGC uplifts are averages. Data is first normalized at the profile or page level before aggregation.
