North America FMCG food social media benchmarks for Q3 2026 show Instagram far ahead of Facebook: the median FMCG food brand in North America earned 41 interactions per Instagram post in September, against eight on Facebook. Median engagement reached up to 3.18% on Instagram, its highest level in 15 months, and up to 1.18% on Facebook. Carousels led on Instagram, and Reels from Grillo’s Pickles, Perdue Chicken and Baked by Melissa topped the Instagram post rankings.
This quarterly benchmarks report draws on Emplifi’s dataset of 981 Facebook pages and 714 Instagram profiles of FMCG food brands in North America, covering July 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2026.
Brands using Emplifi’s UGC solution saw these average uplifts in Q3 2026:
The figures come from Emplifi’s Worldwide Brands UGC benchmark, averaged across 68 to 83 accounts per metric. That benchmark covers brands in every category and region, so it is not specific to FMCG food or to North America.

| Median posts published (quarter) | 25 | 22 |

Instagram has stayed between 36 and 44 for 15 months, peaking in March 2026. Facebook fell from 13 in July 2025 to eight in September 2026, its lowest point, with most of the decline coming in 2026.
Indexing each platform to its own 15-month peak makes the two easier to compare despite their different scales.
Instagram finished September 2026 at 93% of its March 2026 high. Facebook ended at 62% of its peak, the lowest reading for either platform in the period.
Impressions count how often posts were displayed, whether or not anyone interacted. They measure visibility, not engagement.
| Platform | Q3 2026 median post impressions |
|---|---|
| 1,490 | |
| 1,315 |
Both platforms are at about a third of their peaks. Instagram impressions peaked at 4,353 in October 2025 and fell to their lowest level of the period in September 2026. Facebook impressions peaked at 3,985 in September 2025 and have fallen in most months since. The decline is not specific to FMCG food: the Facebook median for all brands in North America roughly halved between July 2025 and September 2026.
Median post engagement rates this quarter:
Across the quarter’s three months, Instagram’s median ranged from 2.75% to 3.18% and Facebook’s from 1.00% to 1.18%, with Facebook at 1.08% in September. Instagram’s rate has more than doubled since its low of 1.46% in September 2025. Facebook’s rose from 0.73% in July 2025, its low, to a high of 1.18% in August 2026.
From this quarter, Emplifi calculates engagement rate from impressions instead of reach, because Facebook no longer provides reach data. These rates are therefore not comparable with the engagement rates in earlier quarterly reports.
Facebook: Live Video led with a median of 20 interactions per post, followed by links at 16 and status updates at 10.5. Reels earned the lowest median, seven, even though they now make up 45.1% of posts.
Instagram: Carousels led with a median of 50.5 interactions, ahead of Reels at 44. Single images earned about half as much as carousels, at 26.
