Our Story

The History of Emplifi

Emplifi’s history is one of deliberate innovation — bringing together the best minds in social media, commerce, and customer engagement to build something none of them could have built alone.

It began with a need to better care for customers in an evolving digital landscape. Two companies rose to meet that moment: Astute, a customer engagement software company, launched in Columbus, Ohio in 1995; and iPerceptions, a customer experience management solutions company, founded in Montreal in 1999.

Then the landscape shifted again. Social media surged — and Socialbakers was on the cutting edge. Founded in Prague in 2008, Socialbakers pioneered social media analytics and marketing for global brands, evolving into a comprehensive platform for publishing, engagement, analytics, and customer care. In 2014, it grew further with the acquisition of social media monitoring and analytics firm EdgeRank.

The pieces came together in 2020. Astute acquired iperceptions — adding deep Voice of Customer (VoC) capabilities — then joined forces with Socialbakers to create a unified, AI-driven customer experience company. In 2021, that combined company rebranded as Emplifi, bringing the world’s leading social media and digital customer experience minds under one roof — with a shared mission to help brands build more connected customer journeys across marketing, commerce, and care.

As social commerce surged, Go Instore joined Emplifi, adding live video shopping and virtual consultation capabilities that bridged digital and in-store experiences. In 2022, Pixlee TurnTo brought user-generated content, influencer marketing, ratings and reviews, and visual commerce — helping brands build trust through authentic customer content.

But social commerce was just the start.
